Have you ever dined at Melting Pot Cafe, the coffee-house in Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur? If you have, then you would know that it’s always busy, teeming with hungry patrons enjoying the appetizing fares on the menu. Melting Pot’s buffet spreads are pretty legendary with local specialities taking the limelight.
For 20 days this month, ie from 6-26 March 2017, diners will have more reason to head to Melting Pot, especially if they are fans of nyonya cuisine. Chef Adriana Tan, a popular home chef from Melaka has been invited by the hotel to showcase her signature dishes during this period. Good home-cooked-style nyonya delights are available during the buffet lunch and dinner promotion.
Adriana Tan is born and bred in Melaka. She’s well-known for her nyonya laksa which she started cooking in her teens, growing her passion from that young age. She runs her own catering business from home whereby she’s kept busy with orders from regular customers in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Singapore.
Ketam Bercili – one of my top favourites!
Asam Pedas Fish
Ikan Bakar (grilled stingray)
Sambal Udang Petai
Mee Siam: nyonya home-style
Ayam Pongteh
Each day the buffet spread features different selection of appetisers, mains and a variety of nyonya kuih. Peranakan favourites like pie tee, ayam pongteh, ayam rendang nyonya, ayam tempra, asam pedas fish, “sek ark” (braised duck), chap chye, asam pedas bendi, peria and terung fill the claypots on the food counters. My favourites were the sambal udang petai, ketam bercili, mee siam and nyonya laksa!
Pie Tee
I had to restrain myself with the savouries to save some tummy space for the glorious spread of colourful nyonya kuihs made by Chef Adriana. Using all natural ingredients for the brilliant colors, the spread was a lovely sight indeed. I had a hard time deciding which to eat first: there’s pulut tekan with homemade kaya, onde-onde, kuih bongkong, kuih angkoo, kuih seri muka, kuih kosui pandan & gula melaka, abok-abok sago and apam balik durian and a host of others.
