For this entire month of October, some 28 of Malaysia’s top restaurants are offering specially created Festival Menus at very special festival prices, in line with the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival – MIGF. The media launch of this event was held earlier last month where the theme was announced – “It’s Raining Chefs”. This year’s deliberately light-hearted tagline is aimed at giving the festival universal appeal. “Malaysia is a relaxed and friendly food destination,” says Dato’ Steve Day, the festival’s Organizing Chairman.
The Gala Launch of the MIGF was held last week at the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa. With a media tag in hand, I had the privilege of entering the Grand Ballroom way before the official ceremony and had more than sufficient time to check out the booths set up by the participating restaurants and snapped photos to my heart’s content! The entire ballroom was decked out with flickering electric red candles while lifesize cutouts of the chefs carrying umbrellas were strung from the high ceiling. So, yeah… we could see that it certainly was “raining chefs”!
The 28 participating restaurants were really trying to outdo each other in terms of design, creativity and innovation of their booths. Guests were given voting slips to vote for the Best Booths in 4 categories – eg best design, best cuisine etc for the gala launch.
There were dazzling displays of enticing servings from each booth and honestly, I lost track of the names of the tantalizing items I sampled that evening.
Just feast your eyes here… let the photos speak …
