Have you tried the new Mazesoba Ramen from Ippudo?
It’s something very different from the regular ramen. For one, it’s a “dry” rendition, much like our local “kon loe” style where noodles are tossed with sauce and condiments. This Japanese-style “mixed ramen” is a serving of thick chewy noodles with 9 unique ingredients. The 9 ingredients are nori, cha shu, crunchy noodles, garlic, spring onion, minced pork, lime, leek and an onsen tamago (poached egg).
The idea is to toss everything together with the onsen tamago’s runny yolk binding everything together in one big delicious mess. A bowl of murky tonkotsu soup with gyozas is served with the noodles.
The Mazesoba Ramen is available at Ippudo in Bangsar Shopping Centre. While you are there, do check out some of the new items. We did and here’s what we thought about them.
We love Japanese salads and Ippudo’s latest Mango Salad (RM29.50) is a winner. Diced mango served with assorted vegetables and diced salmon tossed in yuzu dressing would go down well with just about anyone for its fresh sweet salmon and refreshing mango and yuzu dressing.
The prettily stacked Amaebi Tartare (RM34) ranks highly in our favourites list. Sweet amaebi shrimp complements the velvety buttery avocado very well and the wasabi dressing gives it just that delicate kick.
Ippudo’s Salmon Sushi Moriawase (RM44) is a platter of fresh and torched salmon sushi. Immensely satisfying, these sushi are addictive!
If you prefer cooked food, then the Chicken Nanban (RM16) and Seafood Foil Yaki (RM39.50) are two new dishes to tempt you. The former is marinated deep fried chicken served with homemade tartar sauce which would be popular with the kids too.

Seafood fans would love the steamed mussels, shrimp, squids and scallops served with spicy ponzu and assorted vegetables on hot plate. The spicy tangy sauce is really appetizing!
For dessert, try the homemade Watermelon Sherbet served with cheese cake and pineapple preserve (RM19). It’s cold, it’s sublimely refreshing and balanced very well with the creamy cheese cake.

I’d love to try that amaebi tartare, quite an interesting take I think
Yes, it is indeed unique – the amaebi is darn sweet!
