Did you know that there was once a legendary nobleman back in good old feudal Japan known as “Shining Genji”? Well, I can’t blame you if you don’t because this legendary guy was famed for his appreciation and great passion for fine food, wine and lifestyle. The namesake of this central character in the book “The Tale of Genji” written by Murasaki Shikibu in the 11th century is the source of inspiration for Genji Japanese Restaurant in the Hilton, Petaling Jaya.

Genji Japanese Restaurant has been around since 1988 and this stalwart restaurant serving country-style Japanese cuisine is well-established and popular with many. Its consistent quality in its myriad seasonal delicacies have won many fans and the restaurant is ideal for social dining, whether with business associates or loved ones.
My kind of Salada
The entire restaurant exudes a warm welcome the moment you step onto their wooden floors, wood-panelled walls, partitions, screens and framed windows. Interesting Japanese objects d’art line the shelves of a wooden decorative frame on one end of the restaurant while one of the walls spots a series of black & white photo prints depicting sceneries and lifestyles of Japanese country folks. It is this quaint interplay of decor that gives it its understated casual elegance – something that makes one wants to linger over pots of green tea, just to enjoy its lovely ambience.
The restaurant is segregated into several distinct areas to provide patrons extra privacy, if desired. The tea lounge, sushi bar, main restaurant, 2 spacious teppanyaki counters and 6 private tatami dining rooms are available – just pick your preferred dining occasion and space!
Besides value-added set menus, Genji serves a wide variety of sushi, sashimi, kaiseki, teriyaki, tempura and sukiyaki dishes in its a’la carte menu.
Recently, we checked out Genji’s popular weekend buffets. The Saturday Dinner Buffet is priced at RM109++ per adult and RM56++ per child (5-11 years old) from 6.30pm till 10.30pm. The Sunday Buffet Lunch is available from 11.30am till 2.30pm at RM99++ per adult and RM49++ per child.
As you can see, we have many favourites from the wide array of offerings…
