In the midst of all the Chinese New Year feasting, if you get tired of the usual Chinese festive fares, head on to Genji at Hilton Petaling Jaya for some very tempting Japanese dishes. It gets even more tantalising now with their new winter menu and chef’s creations with seasonal ingredients coming all the way from Japan.
Top on the list of Genji’s Winter Specials and Signature Dishes menu is the air-flown Wagyu beef. With its rich tender buttery melt-in-mouth texture, thanks to the heavy marbling, wagyu is best savoured grilled lightly or dipped into shabu-shabu. Swirling the wagyu for just a few seconds in a bubbling umami broth is the best way to enjoy the beef. We definitely didn’t stop at one slice! The Shabu-shabu wagyu (marble 10) is at RM380 and Genji also offers 2 types of Nabe: Tori Nabe (RM80) and Kaisen Nabe (RM168).
Besides wagyu beef, do check out the fresh fish at Genji during this period. The prized Kinkidai (Japanese Snapper) is one of the highlights here for its refined taste and texture. Unfortunately kinkidai was not available on the day we were here. Instead, we had some very good Saba (mackerel) grilled with miso (RM50) and Buri Gama (hamachi/amberjack fish head) grilled with salt.
Sashimi is the staple in any Japanese restaurant and in Genji now, it’s the season for Buri (amberjack) and Maguro (tuna). We had our fill of super fresh sweet Buri Sashimi (RM98) and Hon Maguro Sashimi (RM140).
Crafted by the affable Chef Richard, these Winter Specials & Signature Dishes are available at Genji this month and likely to extend to February as well, till stocks last. Various cooking styles and light ingredients are used to bring out the exquisite natural flavours of the fresh fish and wagyu.
