It’s already June and Father’s Day is not too far away. For that special guy in your family, it’s another round of feasting and merry-making. Well, if you fancy some Oriental delights, head on over to Zuan Yuan, the Chinese restaurant in One World Hotel.
Tossed Cordyceps Flower with Smoked Duck
Chef Michael Chew and his team have come up with 3 different set menus, priced at RM468++ (for 4 person), RM668++ (for 6 persons) and RM1188++ (for 10 persons). We got to try some of the special dishes picked from the 3 menus recently.
Wild Mushroom & Crabmeat Soup
We had a starter – Tossed Cordyceps Flower with Smoked Duck. Looking like curls of noodles, the cordycep flowers are tossed with sesame oil and a dash of soy sauce. While the dried blooms are kinda chewy, they actually pair quite well with the slices of smoked which retained delicious nuances of smokiness in the pinkish textures of gamey meat.
We welcomed the Wild Mushroom & Crabmeat Soup. Thick and flavoursome, it looked and tasted almost like the controversial sharksfin soup, but this is sans fins. The soup has strong hints of earthy sweetness from the slivers of morel and porcini mushrooms generously flavouring the broth.
Stir-fried Bittergourd and Pumpkin with Dried Shrimps may not be everyone’s cup of tea as not all can stomach the bitter slices. For me, I love bittergourds so this dish is just right up my alley. The pumpkin does help to alleviate the bitter tinge, so eat them together and enjoy the best of both vevgetables!
Steamed Pomfret ‘Wu Han’ Style
Wok Fried Tiger Prawn with Spicy Sauce and Milk
Both the Steamed Pomfret ‘Wu Han’ Style and Wok Fried Tiger Prawn with Spicy Sauce and Milk scream for bowls of rice. The flavours of both dishes are strong and very robust, titillating the pomfret is very fresh and I enjoyed picking the fins and bones clean.
Chef Michael Chew is a whiz with the smoking culinary technique, so his Smoked “Village” Chicken with Flavoured Chinese Tea turned out to be very popular among my fellow diners. Using only Ti Kuan Yin tea for its great topnotes aroma, the golden-skinned chicken is full of flavoursome goodness.
There are several dessert choices in the special set menu – we tried their Double-boiled Sweetened Soya Milk with Snow Lotus Seeds and Snow Fungus, a sweet broth that nurtures the skin and blood circulation in the body.
