There aren’t that many western restaurants in town that’s helmed by a petite Malay lady chef. Grill 582 at the BEST WESTERN PREMIER Dua Sentral is just one of those rare restaurants and this is where Sous Chef Siti Arini Darsom lets her culinary creativity run free.
The month of May has always been a special month in the culinary calendar – this month usually records high dine-out rates due to the Mother’s Day celebrations.
Chef Siti’s “Extraordinary Culinary Offerings” was meant for May but it was so popular that the restaurant has decided to extend it for June as well. So, if you haven’t already known about this, you still have until end June to hop over to Grill 582 and bring your dads along, too – Father’s Day is a good reason to do that!
The Extraordinary Culinary Offerings special 4-course dinner menu is priced at RM250++ per person with wine pairing and if you’d rather not have wine, then it’s at RM180++ per person.
Except for Dessert, diners get to choose 1 of 2 items in each course – appetizer, soup and mains. The dessert platter offers 3 items for every diner and yes, you get all 3!
For appetizers, the 2 choices are Scottish Smoked Salmon Tartare, Shallot, Creme Fraiche and Frisee Salad and Pan-seared Scallop, Mango and Chilli Salsa. Both are equally good and it all depends on whether you are partial to salmon or scallops. Portions are on the petite side (like the chef)… but appetizers aren’t meant to fill you up, which is a good thing because the soups (next course) are pretty hearty.

I can’t really decide which soup I prefer as both are very good, having been prepared from scratch. The Wild Mushroom Soup with Truffle Oil is insanely fragrant – that’s what truffle oil does to the nose! I like it that the mushrooms had not been blended too fine – the rough pebbly texture gives a nice bite and mouthfeel.

Chef Siti’s French Onion Soup is thick and creamy, quite unlike the usual thin watery version. The dark russet-coloured soup is incredibly sweet and instead of little cubes of croutons, there are 2 big round ones, filled with grated cheese. Stirring these into the soup… well, you get the picture – the soup is almost a small meal by itself!

There’s beef, lamb and fish for you to select from the mains. My bet is the Herb-crusted Australian Lamb Rack with Ratatouille. 3 thick cuts of perfectly grilled lamb rack are spread out on the plate, their only embellishments being a splash of their roast jus and a sprinkle of fine fresh herbs. Lamb lovers – the tender pink meat is calling your name.

If you order the Grilled Black Angus Sirloin with Baked Potatoes and Sour Cream, be very specific and clear with your instructions on how the meat should be done. My “medium rare” preference was misinterpreted as “well done” and I had to send it back to the kitchen.

The Tasmanian Ocean Trout with Saute’ed Spinach and Butter Sauce is the healthier choice, of course. It’s decent – the fish flaky and soft with a nice crust on the skin.

The platter of desserts comprises Cheesecake Bonbon, Toffee Creme Brulee and Chilled Chocolate Chiboust – all of which are excellent!
