Having firmly established itself in Uptown Damansara with a good following, Yugin and team decided to take their good food to USJ Taipan, Subang to share with the folks there. Epicuro USJ was opened on 14 August 2015, just about a month ago. With a premise that’s more spacious, yet echoing the same cosy simplicity of its Uptown outlet, Epicuro USJ can seat 60 people comfortably with another 16 in its alfresco terrace.
When I was there a couple of weeks ago, it seemed word of this Epicuro has spread and there was a pretty good crowd there. The menu here repeats most of its signature dishes but Yugin has a few new ideas up his sleeve. It’s not a very extensive menu as Yugin wants to keep it tight and focused.
I’ve never tried its signature Big Breakfast (RM26.90) at its Damansara outlet so I seized the opportunity to have it here. I told Yugin he perhaps had to think about getting bigger plates to serve this as the hash browns, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, bread and egg were almost falling off the plate. You can choose to have either scrambled or sunny side-up eggs for this. It’s a satisfying platter, for sure – very generous portion and for small eaters, it’s best shared.
While I enjoyed the Big Breakfast, I enjoyed the Waffle Brunch (RM18.90) even more. The serving was slightly smaller and just perfect for one person. What’s even better was that I discovered the slightly-sweet waffles went divinely with the savoury smokey bacon, sausage and fried egg. For a healthier addition, there’s a fresh greens salad by the side too.
The waffles are also available on their own and I’d recommend having it with a nice big scoop of Yugin’s house-made Chocolate Ice-cream. Sprinkled with some crunchy almond flakes, those waffles have become my “must-order” item now.
Pastas in Epicuro seldom fall short and the Mixed Mushrooms & Bacon Aglio Olio Pasta (RM23.90) and Prawns Aglio Olio Pasta with Saute’ed Spinach (RM24.90) did a good job of satisfying my cravings.
MIXED MUSHROOMS & BACON AGLIO OLIO PASTA
The pasta were nicely al dente and portions were generous. I liked the addition of spinach into the aglio olio pasta – it worked very well being paired with the bouncy prawns.

One of best dishes from Epicuro in Uptown Damansara is their signature Pork Chops. This is also available here and Yugin has added on 1 more porky mains. His new dish – Seared Pork Shoulder Loin is served with with saute’ed vegetables, potatoes and herb compound butter. The simple execution belies its delicious marinade and it’s served sans sauce. The pork texture is delightfully tender yet yields a bite. My only grouse is that this portion is too petite and may not be fulfilling for pork lovers. So I have asked Yugin to consider giving his diners an option of having either 1 or 2 pieces of the pork shoulder loin (at different prices, of course). So, look out for this new item in the menu!
Yugin’s Fish & Chips (RM19.90) are decent and what I liked most about this item is the Spicy Stick Fries which are crazily addictive. It was so addictive that I had to order an additional portion at RM7.90 to satiate my dining buddies.
Besides the signature Tiramisu, you should try the house-made Raspberry Sorbet with dark chocolate bits and biscuit crunch – another definite must-have here!
So drop by Epicuro USJ soon… I heard they are going to serve customized breakfast from 8.00am and their coffee is pretty good too – Brazil Santos beans!
