From its humble beginnings in Rawang, Restaurant Lan Je which is famous for its delicious steamed tilapia, has now expanded to many parts of the Klang Valley (Balakong, Kota Damansara, Puchong, USJ Subang, to name a few), and its most recent one is in Kota Kemuning which opened for business in mid July 2013. Restaurant Lan Je’s menu is simple and limited to several house favourites. The restaurant in Kota Kemuning has its menu posted on the wall with full colour posters. Their steamed … [Read more...]
MIGF 2013: Grill 582 at Best Western Premier Dua Sentral
The Malaysian International Gourmet Festival (MIGF) is already well in progress, having started on 1 October 2013. Diners have the rest of this month to enjoy the special festival menus offered by the participating restaurants. When we first dined in Grill 582 at Best Western Premier Dua Sentral a few months back, we loved the grilled dishes done by Chef Siti Arini Darsom so we are delighted to be invited to try out her Festival Menu for MIGF 2013. The Menu: Starter Foie Gras … [Read more...]

Continuing our tastings of the MIGF 2013 Festival Menus, we had a chance to check out what Chef Tan Tzaan Ling of Five Sen5es at The Westin Kuala Lumpur has to offer. We always enjoy the dining ambience in FiveSen5es with its classy hardwood tables, tasteful Chinese antiques blending against a backdrop of contemporary interior design and best of all, the soothing sounds of water flowing from the water features. The open kitchen is always an interesting hive of activity and holds our … [Read more...]
The Majestic Malacca
I cannot help but be awed by The Majestic Malacca the very first time I set eyes on it. Located at the banks of the Malacca River, the grand white building with green windows is a sight to behold. I felt as if I’ve been transported back in time. As a kid, I used to live in a wooden house with similar windows which creaked every time we pushed them - funny how such bits of memories hit you when triggered by something trivial like wooden windows. But of course the windows here at The Majestic … [Read more...]
The Best Prawn Mee in Kota Kemuning at Uncle Vincent’s!
The first thing I did was to taste the sambal that came with the bowl of Prawn Mee. I could discern freshly-ground dried chillies (not the preservative-laden commercially produced type!), belacan and dried shrimps and laced with sweet fragrant pounded shallots. Yes, that definitely passed my acid test. Next… the broth. I scooped a whole spoonful and could see that it was thick and cloudy – that’s a good sign. It tasted as it should be: brimming over with porky and prawny goodness, … [Read more...]

You just gotta love Chef Pearl Woo. Chef Pearl Woo in her playground Chef Pearl Woo from Qba Latin Bar & Grill in The Westin Kuala LUmpur is one of the most lovable chefs I’ve met in a long while. The warm, bubbly, chatty and ever-smiling chef makes one feel immediately welcomed and at ease. Passion and commitment must be her middle … [Read more...]
Restoran Boston Baru, Klang
Have you ever been to a restaurant at 5pm (for dinner) and wait for it to open? This must be the only restaurant I have done something like that! I have heard so much about this plac, the incredible crowds it draws and the ridiculous queues. So, one fine Saturday evening we were there at 5pm. They were not opened yet and we stood in front of the restaurant a good 45 minutes waiting for it to open! The must-order item here is its famous Steamed Lala in Supeior Stock. We … [Read more...]
The New Delicious
These days you are likely to see Steve Allen dressed casually in checked shirt and jeans in the Delicious cafes. Why? The latest feather to this chef’s talented cap is that he’s now the CEO of Delicious, after having served as Group Creative Chef for the E&O Group for a year. Of course, he still heads the new Delicious Kitchen but he now allocates time in other operational aspects of Delicious, from customer service to training to just about everything else. So, there I was… chatting … [Read more...]
