PLOY – Work@Clearwater, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur
I like this line: Be dazzled by Ploy. No, I don't mean "ploy" as in "a calculated action to frustrate an opponent"... but rather "Ploy" as in "gems" in the Thai language. Yes, all that are glittery and dazzling are represented in Ploy... from the glitzy shimmering cushions to the gem-cut facet motif on its signage and wall covering. All these blend to give a cool modern almost-simplistic touch to the interior decor which on first impression, spells "hip" and even "chic". Take a seat in … [Read more...]

According to the Chinese lunar calendar, it is now still not mid-7th month yet but long before today, mooncakes have been on sale everywhere. Talk about being early! Mooncakes are traditionally eaten during the Mid Autumn Festival which falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month... and this year, that date is set for 12 September 2011. Every year, restaurants, bakeries and hotels try to outdo each other in coming up with new fanciful variants of mooncakes. Back when I was a kid, the only … [Read more...]

Ben’s General Food Store
Whenever we have lunch meetings in the office, chances are high that we'd be eating those delivered-to-your-doorstep fast-food pizzas ... you know which ones I mean. Those are not exactly my favourite kinda food. And that's why I usually avoid eating pizzas out of the office environment, if I can help it. Unless of course, if it's pizzas freshly made in an Italian restaurant... you know, those hand-made thin crusted types baked in firewood ovens. Yeah, call me a pizza snob, if you will... but … [Read more...]
No Signboard Seafood
Where is your favourite Chilli Crabs place in Singapore? There has been so much hoo-ha recently over CNN’s Top 50 Most Delicious Food in the World and this so-called almost-national Singaporean dish ranked 35th in that list. The East Coast Seafood Centre houses numerous restaurants along the stretch facing the sea. Restaurants with names like “The Red House”, “Long Beach”, “Jumbo” were enjoying brisk business that evening we were there. My friend C declared that “No Signboard” is the … [Read more...]

So, imagine my excitement when I learned that the Asian Food Channel (AFC), in collaboration with the Eastern & Oriental Bhd group (E&O) will be bringing us its first-ever reality television series called the “E&O Search for AFC’s Next Celebrity Chef”. HK Food Trail: Pt.4 – Shatin Pigeons
I am still paying penance for this meal. We had this sin-laden meal for supper. I'm not sure about the name of this place (it's written in Chinese) - the locals refer to it as "Foh Tharn" (literally translated as "charcoal"!) but the cab driver knew it well enough and deposited us right in front of this hawker centre-like place. There are about 6-7 stalls located in that row... and I was told all of them serve the same kinda dishes, more or less. Of course the main attraction here is there … [Read more...]
