The Oriental Group of Restaurants are back this year with their 2023 Annual Guest Chef Specials after a lapse due to the pandemic lockdowns. This time round, legendary Chef Wong Ling Soon, better known as Ah Soon Kor, will showcase popular Chinese dishes in the era before 2000. As we remember, these iconic dishes are so memorable and can be savoured in many Chinese restaurant more than 20 years ago.
During this month, selected restaurants in the Oriental Group will hold Grand Dinners where special dishes curated by Ah Soon Kor, together with Chef Wong Chin Leong and Chef Paul Lee of the Oriental Group will be featured.
Two Set Menus (for table of 10 diners) will be offered, at RM2,688 nett and RM3,888 nett.
The dates and venues for the Grand Dinners are:
Pork-free version of menus are served at Ruyi in Bangsar Shopping Centre.
The charming and delectable Appetisers of Crispy King Prawn Balls, Abalone Roll & Duck Tongues, Fengcheng-style Pork & Liver Roll and Old-style Stuffed Chicken Wings should not be missed. In many bygone festive dinners, variations of these can be found in the 4 Seasons platter.
We love the ingenious Double-boiled Duck & Tangerine Peel Health Soup served with a fluffy Puff Crust. The piping hot nutritious soup is so comforting in every way, made more interesting by dipping the flaky crispy pastry into it!
Braised Goose Web with Stuffed Rare Morel Mushroom is such a lavish dish, usually served in high-end restaurants. It’s also a dish that calls for tedious and careful preparation and the chefs have done an excellent job rendering this delicacy perfectly. The goose web is tender (yet remains beautifully intact) and super tasty, having absorbed the flavours of premium ingredients during the braising process. The chefs have even stuffed the morels with pork paste!
The serving of Suckling Pig Skin arranged with quail century eggs and honeydew in a “Peacock Nest” design is visually pleasing, with charming old-world vibes. So is the Deep-fried Pomfret & Stirfried Scallops in XO Sauce.
To round-off this sumptuous meal, there’s Baked Glutinuous Rice in Fragrant Coconut and desserts of Bird’s Nest in Lemongrass Infusion and “Dang Ying” Redbean Pumpkin Balls with Bananas.
Besides the Set Menus for Table of 10, the dishes can also be ordered individually in the A La Carte selections.
So, choose your favourite Oriental restaurant and book your seats to savour these splendid dishes curated by Ah Soon Kor and the Oriental Group’s culinary team!
