It’s 2015 and let the feasting continue!
Let’s start the year by looking for some affordable eats. Shah Alam may be the most unlikely place to look for some decent steaks and other western-style dishes. However, it was in a rather obscure spot that we found some really nice lamb chops and steaks. Tucked away in a food court in Section 7, Shah Alam is Foodilicious Kitchen. Opened since last June, Foodilicious Kitchen is run by Lyssa Hamzah and her siblings. The menu is just a 2-paged laminated sheet with photos of the dishes served, all done by Lyssa herself. Coming from a family who love food and having a mother as the mentor and food advisor behind this venture, Lyssa proudly explained that all the recipes were home-grown. Her family members were the guinea pigs who had to test out the recipes.
Bolognese Nachos
Bolognese Fries
For a start, if you are a cheese lover, have the Bolognese Nachos or Fries (RM7.90). It’s a very generous portion – the nachos and fries were completely drenched in a thick beefy Bolognese sauce and topped with golden melted cheese.
The signature 7-Spice Lamb Chop
The 7-Spice Lamb Chop is the signature dish in Foodilicious Kitchen. Priced at a decent RM14.90, the lamb chop is served with mashed potatoes, coleslaw and slathered with the house black pepper sauce. Naturally, the combination of the 7 spices is a closely-guarded secret but I could detect hints of rosemary and cloves in it. The spice marinade was not too heavy to overwhelm the natural flavour of the lamb. Grilled to a medium well done-ness, the lamb chop retained a tender juicy texture. I actually prefer to eat it without the black pepper sauce. That’s not to say the sauce wasn’t good – it’s actually delicious and goes well with the steaks.
7-spice Ribeye
The steaks served here are priced very attractively. The same 7-spice marinade is also used for the ribeye steak (RM24.90) and striploin (RM20.90). For a piping hot experience, the lamb and steaks are also served sizzling on hotplates with an additional RM5 to the price tag. Try the Sizzling Shitake Chicken (RM18.90) where a whole grilled chicken thigh is simmered in a nice thick gravy. The mashed potatoes and coleslaw are standard sides which are served with most of the dishes.

Foodilicious Kitchen also does combo dishes – combining a meat with pasta. The Carbonara Combo Lamb Chop (RM25.80) is a substantial meal on its own.

or just have some Pasta on its own!
Don’t like heavy red meats? No worries. Lighter options come in the forms of Grilled Salmon (RM19.90) and BBQ Grilled Chicken (RM13.90). The latter comes with fries and glistening BBQ sauce topping the grilled chicken thigh. The salmon was executed well – the insides remained pink and tender and not overcooked at all.

There’s only one dessert on the menu and it’s something not to be missed. Lyssa’s homemade Chocolate Brownies (RM7.90) is a must-order! Served warm, bathed in thick chocolate sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, this dessert is really satisfying. We love the warm fudgy texture of the rich brownie with its comforting notes.
Foodilicious Kitchen serves up some really tasty western-style grills with a touch of no-frills home cooked goodness as the marinades and sauces are all prepared from scratch. The best thing is that having a meal here won’t burn a hole in your pocket!
