I love Korean food. And I usually satisfy the hansik cravings in restaurants where I can have everything and anything between bulgogi and bossam! That’s how most of the Korean restaurants operate here in Malaysia – they serve a whole wide range of Korean dishes under one roof. In Korea, most restaurants serve just their particular speciality. When it comes to street food, well, you find them all over the place, from street to station. Train and subway stations are popular places for street food, sold on carts, stalls or just small eateries and in Seoul, Myeongdong Station is famous for this.
Here in the Klang Valley, whenever I want a variety of Korean street food, Myeongdong Topokki is the place to head to. I’m not surprised that the inspiration to set up this chain of eateries came from the actual Myeongdong Train Station in Seoul, back in 2014.
Topokki – those tubular chewy rice cakes are eaten by everyone in Korea and this is the core item at these eateries. It’s served in several ways – with the typical spicy bean sauce, with kimchi, with odeng or just in simple soy garlic sauce. There are currently more than 14 outlets, housed mainly in shopping malls and every time I need a quick Korean meal fix, there’s always a Myeongdong Topokki nearby.

If you are really hungry, go for the substantial value meal sets. Starting from RM17.90, these sets offers some great combo meals like the Hangul Chicken Ramyun, Kimchi Jiggae, Dol Sot Bibimbap, Bulgogi (beef/chicken) or Dakgalbi. Set meals come with side dishes like kimchi, banchaan, soup and even gimbap.

Dol Sot Bibimbap with Chicken (RM19.90)
I like their fried snacks too – typical street food like Squid Twigim (these are awesome!), soy garlic fried chicken and their latest Bulgogi Fries (chicken/beef) drizzled with melted cheese!
Ganjang Chicken (RM10.90) soy garlic fried chicken
Bulgogi Fries (RM9.90 chicken/RM10.90 beef)
Be sure to order their signature drinks like Milkeu-Ti, Honey Citron and Honey Jujube served in ingenious packaging – drink in or takeaway, those packs are amazing.
Myeongdong Topokki is the place to head to (especially if you are in a shopping mall) for a quick and affordable fix when Korean food cravings hit. Believe me, the portions may seem small but they are not and just a simple meal set will have you a satisfied stomach!
