Nagashi Somen is widely popular in Japan during summer. To eat Nagashi Somen, the boiled somen – silky thin white wheat noodles slide down a bamboo chute filled with clean cold water. Now you must have some decent chopsticks skills for this as the idea is to catch these bundles of noodles with chopsticks as they slide down the bamboo, dip them in a bowl of sweet shoyu sprinkled with sesame seeds, chopped ginger and spring onions before slurping these down your throat – oishiiii! SAMIRA by Asian Terrace is proud to present the very first Nagashi Somen experience in Malaysia!
Like I said before, Nagashi Somen is popular in Japan (originated in Takachiko, Miyazaki) as well as some parts of Taiwan. Now, you don’t have to go to Japan for this fun experience as SAMIRA by Asian Terrace is the very first place to serve Nagashi Somen in Malaysia! Inspired by this unique noodles eating experience when she visited Miyazaki last year, Joanna Tan (one of the owners of Samira) decided to bring this concept back to Malaysia.
It took the team a few months to set up the rustic structure, complete with nipah thatched roof and bamboo slides in a corner of the beautiful landscape of Samira by Asian Terrace. Cradled within lush greenery and fresh air makes the Nagashi Somen experience so much more enjoyable! We really loved this – such a fun and laughter-filled experience and the somen was a delicious starter!
If you are concerned about hygiene, fret not. There is a strict policy of No Cross Picking, meaning you and your friends are to sit together on one side and to pick up the somen from the bamboo slide on your side only.
Price: RM22.90++ per session per person – you get about 5-7 bundles of somen and once a pink bundle of somen slides down, that signifies the last pick.
