What a quaint name! That’s the first thought which crossed my mind when I came across this name for a Korean restaurant in Solaris recently. It’s meant to capture the ambience of an old classroom back in the good old days. The colourful wooden tables and chairs are reminiscent of my primary school although we never had such vibrant colors for our school desks - they were all brown and scratched, I remember. There are special menus written on boards hung on the wall and customers … [Read more...]
FAVOLA @ Le Meridien Chiang Mai, Thailand
Sitting at the main lobby of the Le Meridien Chiang Mai, I couldn’t help but be struck by the timeless chic design of the hotel, enhanced by various pieces of striking contemporary art pieces on the walls. It shouldn’t surprise me, really as the Le Meridien hotels all over the world subscribe to their universal theme of being a leading contemporary lifestyle brand. As I make my way up to Favola, their Italian restaurant, I can smell the delicious aromas of breads or pizzas (I’m not sure … [Read more...]
GENJI @ Hilton Petaling Jaya – see what’s new?
After its recent renovation, the newly refurbished Genji in Hilton Petaling Jaya breathes a new refreshing touch to its modern Japanese decor. It’s certainly brighter, looks more spacious and airier than before. The same light wood theme runs across the restaurant but now with some new items added, Genji exudes a contemporary elegant charm which makes dining here a much more enjoyable experience now. Using a “modern Japanese country restaurant” concept, the spacious and comfortable dining area … [Read more...]
Dining in 137 PILLARS HOUSE, CHIANG MAI, THAILAND
During my stay at the amazing 137 Pillars House in Chiang Mai, I had the privilege of sampling some of the remarkable culinary offerings in its restaurants. As detailed in my earlier review, 137 Pillars House is a cosy boutique resort, converted from a grand mansion originally built in the 1880’s. Due to its unique structure, the dining spaces in the resort spell warmth, intimacy and cosiness in almost every corner. The restaurants and bars are located in the main building and they flow into … [Read more...]

BROLLY @ Menara Felda, Kuala Lumpur
Going into Brolly is like letting oneself loose in a merry-go-round Wonderland of Food. And being the mad glutton that I am, that’s really a very dangerous place to be. Dangerous because one can easily slip into a food coma here simply because there IS just so much food variety here! Blame it on the foodie owners – they just want to tempt the hell out of you with their endless selections, housed under various “kitchen concepts” in this very mod and quirky dining space. Obviously … [Read more...]
LIM FRIED CHICKEN @ Hicom Glenmarie, Shah Alam
I first blogged about this well-known Fried Chicken way back in 2008 (read that here). Mr Lim started his business as a stall in Wong Soon Kee Kopitiam in SS14 Subang Jaya and the queues for his fried chicken snaked all the way along the five-foot-way outside. I have been a fan all these years, taking my place in the queue, either to eat in the kopitiam or to “tapau” as takeaway. The delicious aroma of the fried chicken coming from the huge wok where Mr Lim stood tirelessly tending to, … [Read more...]

PREZZO @ Telawi, Bangsar
Prezzo, located smack in the middle of one of Bangsar’s busiest streets, has been drawing in a steady stream of diners since it opened its doors more than a month ago. You can’t miss their bright red signboard raised against a green awning along busy Telawi 5. There are several tables arranged on the walkway for a bit of al fresco dining while the inside is furnished with simple but comfortable furniture. The menu lists predominantly Italian-style dishes. We munched on some Crab … [Read more...]
