DISH - Delicious Ingredients Steak House. The dining section of Dish is just behind Delicious Ingredients - unpretentious modern simple set-up, a perfect foil for the fine dishes they serve. You don't need to dress up yet the food served here is of "fine dining" concept. Quite unorthodox. In Dish, it's All About The Beef. And they have a certain philosophy about their Beef, too... like how thick the steak should be cut? Take a look... Having been established in that "embassy … [Read more...]
Exquisite Dim Sum @ Golden Phoenix, Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur
Like the mythical phoenix rising, Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur’s famed Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant is set to soar once again, reinstating its position as one of Kuala Lumpur’s finest Chinese restaurants. The restaurant has been given a boost. It is now ultra-modern, tastefully decked out in soothing cream, sunny yellow and rustic earth tones. Surisit Thai Kopitiam @ TTDI
When I read in the makan grapevine about a new Thai place in my neighbourhood, I had it in mind to go check it out soon. More so when it serves porky delights and what's even better is that it's just a hop and skip away from my work place. I wasted no time in roping in one of my favourite makan partners to have dinner there recently. It was supposed to be a merry group but as fate would have it, several of them could not make it due to ill health. Nevertheless, determination and gluttony … [Read more...]
My CookBook @ Sunway Giza
Some months ago the food-blogging world was all abuzz about My CookBook. Then, it was the latest "kid on the block" and with such a catchy name, it's no wonder everyone was excited. I decided to let the buzz cool down a bit before writing about this place... perhaps now is a good time to "remind" people about My CookBook. Well, I was pretty excited too (having read about the place in numerous food blogs) when I went there to check this place out. Located in Sunway Giza, it's a trendy … [Read more...]
My home-made Nyonya Chung
This year the Bakchang Festival falls on 6 June. Usually a few weeks before the festival, the Chinese will be making and enjoying the bamboo leaves-wrapped dumplings. My favourite has always been the Cantonese-style "ham yook chung" which I make almost every year (see my post on that here). A couple of weeks back I had the chance of trying Debbie Teoh's Nyonya Chung and after that, I was so inspired to give this a try. So, I sent out an SOS for some "bunga telang" and my kind kahcheh went and … [Read more...]
Set Buffet @ Kampachi, Equatorial Kuala Lumpur
I think if you mention "Kampachi", most people would know that it's one of the pioneer and premier Japanese restaurants in the city. The restaurant, located in the Equatorial Kuala Lumpur is a favourite with many and their Sunday Buffet Brunch is extremely popular - almost legendary, where advance bookings are a must. I like how they offer a "lesser salt" version of shoyu, but I can't remember whether it was the red or blue bottle! Besides the Sunday Buffet Brunch, Kampachi also serves … [Read more...]
Steamboat, HK-style @ Elegant Inn
Steamboat, to many, may be a tedious kind of meal. The main grouse would probably be that you have to cook the meal yourself, at the dining table. And you may have to put up with some hot waves of air from the boiling pot of broth and the cooker too... on top of having to cook your food! Some people avoid steamboat because well, the food gets kinda monotonous here because most of the stuff we have are made from fishpaste - a variety of shapes and sizes, but basically, fishpaste is the core … [Read more...]
Baking Pies @ The Food Studio is great fun!
The first thing that struck me about The Food Studio is that...man, that's my Dream Kitchen! I love those overhanging steel shelves - I want my pots and pans to hang above the island in my kitchen too. Looking at this very professional kitchen at The Food Studio just reinforces that I need to get cracking on those ceiling-hanging shelves. Tucked away in the quiet hilly enclave of Amarin Kiara, The Food Studio offers a variety of culinary events, ranging from demos, gourmet cooking … [Read more...]
Celestial Court @ Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur
Celestial Court, that elegant classy Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor of the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel has long been a favourite stop-over for meals for busy executives. By virtue of its location in the business district of Jalan Sultan Ismail, Celestial Court enjoys good patronage not only because of this strategic address, but also because their reputation for fine pork-free Chinese fare has tantalised many a palate. From the moment you step onto the plush carpet, pass … [Read more...]
Lunch at Cilantro, MiCasa All Suite Hotel
If I have to take leave to go for a lunch, it'd better be good. Now which restaurant would warrant a half-day leave for me to enjoy its lunch? Well, that would be Cilantro - one of the doyens of fine dining in the city. I, like most common folks, do have a little inconvenience called a "regular day job" which would require applying for half a day off if I want to lounge over a lunch which lasts well over the 1-hour allocated under our employment terms! If you lunch at Cilantro, you … [Read more...]
