How would you like to “move with the wind”? That’s not a clichéd phrase. That is exactly what happens when you go ballooning. This activity may not be very common here in Malaysia but in Melbourne, Australia, it is an attraction that’s readily available. There are quite a number of ballooning operators in Australia but one of the premier and preferred ballooning operators there is none other than Global Ballooning. Actually, my encounter with Global Ballooning in Melbourne started back … [Read more...]
My recipes are featured in Flavours magazine!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! It’s January 2014 and yes, finally I can reveal this. Six of my recipes are featured in the January 2014 issue of Flavours magazine. It’s in the special Chinese New Year section from page 36-41. When I was first approached to undertake this project, I wasn’t certain if I have it in me to do something like this. During a chat, my good buddy Alice Yong asked me what kind of dishes we eat at home during Chinese New Year. I cited a few dishes which have always made … [Read more...]
Festive Buffet Dinners at Eyuzu, Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya
It’s December and almost every hotel in town has lined up special festive feasts for Christmas and New Year. Brain-stormed and concepts prepared months before, buffets and set meals menus are offered with special items included to bring out the festive cheer. If there’s one buffet I would go for, then it has to be a Japanese buffet. Eyuzu, the Japanese restaurant in the Eastin Hotel, Petaling Jaya does offer a pretty extensive range. Eyuzu serves its popular Shumatsu Buffet Dinner on … [Read more...]
The Majestic Malacca
I cannot help but be awed by The Majestic Malacca the very first time I set eyes on it. Located at the banks of the Malacca River, the grand white building with green windows is a sight to behold. I felt as if I’ve been transported back in time. As a kid, I used to live in a wooden house with similar windows which creaked every time we pushed them - funny how such bits of memories hit you when triggered by something trivial like wooden windows. But of course the windows here at The Majestic … [Read more...]
Restoran Boston Baru, Klang
Have you ever been to a restaurant at 5pm (for dinner) and wait for it to open? This must be the only restaurant I have done something like that! I have heard so much about this plac, the incredible crowds it draws and the ridiculous queues. So, one fine Saturday evening we were there at 5pm. They were not opened yet and we stood in front of the restaurant a good 45 minutes waiting for it to open! The must-order item here is its famous Steamed Lala in Supeior Stock. We … [Read more...]
Topshelf @ TTDI
Located in the quieter part of Lorong Rahim Kajai 13, Topshelf has been dishing out popular French and Italian dishes to discerning customers. Helmed by the dashing Chef Christopher Yee and partnered by the charming Hairenna Othman, this unassuming restaurant has been around for almost two years. Trained in French cooking in Europe, Chef Yee keeps his menu tight as he prefers to offer items which are ever-popular using the best and freshest ingredients for the day. The menu features 7 entrees, … [Read more...]
Four Points by Sheraton, Sandakan
I have never been to Sandakan and when an opportunity was presented to me recently to visit this town at the north-eastern tip of Sabah, of course I jumped at it. What more when it’s a chance to visit some of Sandakan’s famous sites, try its popular food and culinary delights but most of all, a chance to check out the Four Points by Sheraton, the only international hotel brand in the city. The skyline of Sandakan’s Central Business District is never the same again since the opening of … [Read more...]
Maison Francaise – be totally pampered by its Sunday Brunch!
Maison Francaise is one of those gem of a restaurant which, when you step into it, you immediately feel a rush of well-being, awe and comfort, all at once. Tucked in an almost secluded spot on a road very less-travelled (at least, for me… in fact, I didn’t even know such a road existed!) this charming French House – that’s what “Maison Francaise” means, is set to impress. I can’t help but be marvelled by the chic simplicity of the main dining area… the windows so prettily dressed with lacy … [Read more...]
Mediteca – Mediterranean Wine, Deli & Tapas Bar, Kuala Lumpur
When I heard that Mediteca has introduced a pork-friendly Mediterranean menu recently, I knew it’s time to check it out. “Pork-friendly” certainly sounds like music to the ears of porcine lovers and it was also incentive enough for me to brave the infamous city traffic crawls for dinner there recently. Mediteca is located right in the core of the Golden Triangle, in Fraser’s Place, along Jalan Perak. It’s not hard to locate actually… you can see the restaurant from street level – it’s right … [Read more...]
Melbourne – our favourite places (part 1)
Personally, we feel the best time to visit Melbourne is during autumn and winter. Yes, we love Melbourne during these seasons. The past 2 trips we made there had been right smack in the middle of winter, in July and the other one recently, in late autumn, in May. Gorgeous autumn colours Temperatures during winter vary from day to day, with some days touching 18-20C and these could dip down to below 10oC immediately the next day! Of course, it gets much colder at night. So, it’s … [Read more...]
