Located somewhere in the Teluk Panglima Garang area flanked by Banting, Pulau Carey and overlooking a branch of the Langat River is I Suka Restaurant. It’s a location where vehicle workshops, light industrial warehouses and small local businesses abound and I Suka Restaurant commands a good view of the river and the lush greenery by the banks. This pork-free restaurant is extremely popular with golfers after their games at nearby Amverton Cove. I Suka is huge - … [Read more...]
SHELL OUT – feasting on seafood with bare fingers!
Shell Out started with their Kota Damansara outlet in mid 2013 and late last year, another outlet in Setia Alam was opened. Working on the “Louisiana Boil” concept where seafood is boiled in pots of sauces and then poured onto tables sans crockery or cutlery, Shell Out has been a tremendous hit. I guess we Malaysians love to eat with our bare hands - there’s just something so primitive and basic in attacking food with fingers. I heard their Kota Damansara outlet is still crazy busy and there’s … [Read more...]
DOLLY DIM SUM @ Avenue K, Kuala Lumpur
There are not many stand-alone pork-free dim sum restaurants in the city. Many perceive that dim sum without pork are “not that nice” as pork is deemed to be a major taste contributor for dim sum. However, there are several pork-free Chinese restaurants in town that serve decent dim sum and I’m so glad that there’s another restaurant being added to that list: Dolly Dim Sum. Located in Avenue K, as the name suggests, Dolly Dim Sum is not your typical Chinese restaurant. Dolly Dim … [Read more...]
Seafood feast at Crab Factory, SS2 Petaling Jaya
Don’t expect pretty table linen or cutlery when you eat at Crab Factory, simply because there’s none. The whole setup in this restaurant is focused on being simple and rustic. The exposed brick wall, the utilitarian wooden tables and metal chairs, the exposed ceiling beams give it a functional and practical theme, much like a factory. The whole idea of this setup is from the owner’s experience of communal dining in Louisiana where the backyard Crab Boil is somewhat like our steamboat or … [Read more...]

Back here in Kuala Lumpur, I’m sure the restaurants that offer Beijing Roasted Duck guard their recipes very closely. All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum Feast at Celestial Court, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur
Coming from Ipoh, a town famed for its delicious dim sum, it isn’t any wonder that I am a dim sum fan. I practically grew up on yum-cha sessions in the many old-world dim sum shops that are a common sight in Ipoh. The odd thing is that we “Ipoh Mali” folks have so much love for yum-cha and dim sum that we make a beeline to the kopitiams and restaurants at the crack of dawn. Yes, we have our favourite char siu pows, har kaus, siew mais with endless cups of tikuanyin at 6am or thereabouts. If … [Read more...]
Chambers Bar & Grill @ Hilton Kuala Lumpur
After months of refurbishment, the Hilton Kuala Lumpur recently unveiled its brand new Chambers Bar & Grill located on the lobby floor of the hotel. Entering the premise, we were bowled over by the sleek lines of its decor. It seems like everything in Chambers is shiny and reflective – right from its intertwined double-C logo, the metallic main door frame, the polished wooden floor and its super-reflective copper tinted satin metal ceiling. The tables and distressed leather seats … [Read more...]
