Fans of Mexican food now have a new place to enjoy this cuisine. The newly-opened Fresca Mexican Kitchen & Bar at The Gardens spots a contemporary and rustic look. From its pretty floor tiles, exposed bricks on the walls, wood-panelled partitions and dark wood furniture, there's a warm feel of hip Latino ambience. I like the colourful Mexican hats and folk paintings decorating some of the walls – great conversational pieces. High stools line the bar on one side – a good place for guests … [Read more...]
Delicious Cafes – Brand New Dishes!
From 70 -> 45 -> 25. Now, if you are wondering what those numbers are all about, well, let me explain. Remember Chef Steve Allen? (just to recall, read about him here). Steve Allen, who is the E&O Group Creative Chef, together with Chef Kasdi Dahari, the E&O Group Executive Chef went through months of culinary R&D and many hot hours in the Delicious kitchens to come up with acceptable dishes for the new menu. Both chefs spent a lot of time developing the new offerings, … [Read more...]
KHAO by Rama V @ Setia City Mall
The smell of fresh paint still lingers in the air as you walk into Setia City Mall. Yes, it’s new. The mall opened barely a fortnight ago, so everything is spanking new there. Walk in from the South Entrance main door and you will see the sparkling new KHAO by Rama V on your left. KHAO by Rama V is a new concept restaurant from none other than the award-winning Rama V Fine Thai Cuisine. Read about my reviews of Rama V here and here. The good folks of Rama V are now presenting a new … [Read more...]
Menya Musashi is open at 1-Utama!
I confess: I am not a great fan of ramen, generally. I find that eating ramen (in many Japanese restaurants here) is akin to eating instant noodles. That’s why on any other day you won’t ever catch me in a ramen shop. Not much anyway. Not until I heard that Menya Musashi is opening right here in Petaling Jaya, right next to where I work. Back in February this year, the good people from Menya Musashi Japan actually did a market test in Isetan KLCC by having a temporary kiosk in the food court. … [Read more...]
Watami @ Pavilion
The very first time I stepped into Watami was at their 1-Utama outlet and that was for a hurried lunch. I had a bowl of ramen and I was good to go. I believe I do have some photos of that meal somewhere but I haven't had a chance to blog about it. I told myself I'd blog about it when I have revisited the place to try out more of their dishes. That was like almost 4 months ago and this was during the time when the Old Wing of 1-Utama was undergoing some massive renovations which resulted in many … [Read more...]
Rama V’s Weekend Lunch a la carte Buffet – such decadence!
The few times I have eaten at Rama V had always been at dinner time and thus, I had always been treated to the beautiful and romantic ambience that dusk and night brings to the place. Warm amber lamps would light up the garden and lotus pond, casting flickering shadows among the foliage and golden shimmers on the water - all these give Rama V a magical mysterious air after sunset. Recently I had a chance to step into Rama V in broad daylight. It was a hot and sultry Sunday afternoon, with … [Read more...]
Putien @ 1Utama – comforting Heng Hwa cuisine
Ever since 1-Utama started their renovation exercise in their Old Wing, for months I have walked past the boarded-up shoplots and wondered what lie behind those boardings. The mall management has revamped most of the outlets in the Old Wing… some have closed down and left the mall, some have relocated and some brand new ones have sprouted. One particular outlet took a much longer time to complete. Week after week and running into months, I have been tantalized by the posters of … [Read more...]
Villa Danieli @ Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur
Villa Danieli at the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur takes on a very different mood in the daytime. Unlike the luxe romantic air that envelopes this trattoria-styled Italian restaurant at night, in the daytime it looks more casual yet retaining its old-world charm, thanks to the bright lively ceiling mural done by Mindy Lehrman Cameron. The rough finishing of the walls, pillars and floors lent a rustic warmth, enhancing the ambience of a typical Italian villa. On a cool afternoon, dining al … [Read more...]
Ben Tdi Wei @ Centrepoint: Best Siu Yook & Amazing Duck!
Ben Tdi Wei ... now, if you are a bit hesitant about how to say or pronounce the name, that's because it is the romanized version of a phrase in Mandarin, meaning "local delights" or "local flavours/tastes". Barely 2 weeks old, this latest addition to the dining scene in Centrepoint is a welcome option among the varied eateries around the area. Occupying 2 shop lots facing the main road, the restaurant is spacious and stylishly modern with a touch of Oriental slant. The Oriental touches come in … [Read more...]
Kechara Oasis @ Jaya One, Petaling Jaya
I don't get to eat vegetarian food as much as I would like. Well, that's because most times when I dine with family and even friends, vegetarian cuisine doesn't seem to be at the top of their list. I like vegetarian dishes. So, it's a rare occasion that I can gather a few friends who would ALL want to go for a vegetarian meal. One of those rare occasions was when I met up with a couple of ex-colleagues, not too long ago, who happen to be fans of vegetarian food and so... hooray, that's how I … [Read more...]
