I know some people scoff at Song River Cafe being a good place to eat in Penang, maintaining that it’s only meant for tourists and that most self-respecting Penangites would not patronize that place. Well, I’m not really bothered about this, because I have my favourite dishes there and yeah, I am not a Penangite – call me a “visitor” or “tourist” if you like but I do like to have a meal or two in Song River Cafe whenever I’m in Penang. Facing the sea, along Gurney Drive, Song River Cafe … [Read more...]
Scrumptious Bites at The Bread Shop, Damansara Heights
The Bread Shop in Damansara Heights has been serving and delighting their customers with their gorgeous breads and pastries for a number of years now. Recently, they introduced their latest French-style pastry: the Kouign Amann (read my post here) and they are proud to be the first bakery in Malaysia to offer that. Well, the kouign amann is not the only item that I love in The Bread Shop. There are quite a few others that I crave and these are their staple items, really. Banana … [Read more...]
Kampachi @ The Troika, Kuala Lumpur
The popular phrase “The Rise of the Phoenix“ refers to something which makes a spectacular or miraculous comeback. The mythological phoenix is an immortal bird that bursts into flames when it dies and is reborn from its ashes. Kampachi has recently reopened in The Troika, Kuala Lumpur. I’m not alluding that phrase to this reopening as Kampachi’s presence is still felt in the Equatorial Hotels in Malaysia as well as in Pavilion and JPO. It’s just that since The Equatorial Kuala Lumpur closed … [Read more...]
Fa Ying @ Paradigm Mall – modern Thai cuisine
I was told that Fa Ying means “princess” in Thai and by that you would nod your head once you know that it is connected to that Thai fine-dining restaurant in Kuala Lumpur called Rama V. Yes, Fa Ying in Paradigm Mall is under the same management as Rama V – people who love and understand Thai food and want to bring Thai cuisine one step closer to the dining public. Whilst Rama V serves authentic traditional Thai cuisine in a more sedate classy environment, Fa Ying on the other hand is clearly … [Read more...]

Oriental Cravings 1-Utama, Bandar Utama
Whenever I get cravings for some good home-style Chinese food, cooked with some unique twists, I head to Oriental Cravings located in the New Wing of 1-Utama. I have dined here countless times (it's close to my workplace) and among my favourites are their Fish Head Noodles, Chee Cheong Fun with Pork Curry, Claypot Loe Shue Fun, Braised Yee Mee – yes, these are quick one-dish meals that totally satisfy my hungry stomach at lunch time. Oriental Cravings is always busy – the front … [Read more...]
Amadeus Bistro & Wine Bar @ Life Centre Kuala Lumpur
It’s pretty easy to locate Amadeus Bistro & Wine Bar in the newly refurbished Life Centre along Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. In fact, it was so easy that I arrived much earlier than the rest of my dining companions that evening and I had ample time to check out the place. At Amadeus Bistro & Wine Bar, the low-ceilinged room acts as a cosy, quiet refuge for patrons eager to have lunch, dinner, coffee, or just to chill out and have a chat with friends. This casually chic European … [Read more...]
Chef Jacky Lim’s Crab Delights at Tai Thong
If you are an avid fan of tv culinary shows, you may have caught an episode or two of the “Crazy for Crabs” series on Astro Wah Lai Toi (Channel 311) every Satuday at 9.30pm. I caught an episode of this “crabby” show recently when the Tai Thong Restaurants showcased their “Crazy for Crabs” promotion at their Imperial China Restaurant in Subang Jaya. And, of course, if you have watched that show, you would know that the very cool-looking ponytailed dashing chef zipping around various Asian … [Read more...]
Samira by Asian Terrace @ Sentul Park, Kuala Lumpur
I have been to the KLPAC (Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre) many times and each time I drive through that lush park known as "Sentul Park" with its narrow winding road flanked by gorgeous matured (read: tall, huge & shady) trees, I hold my breath at the majestic beauty of this green haven in the middle of the city. It’s as if I have been transported from the busy dusty Jalan Ipoh behind me into this serene tropical oasis. So, recently we went through that same narrow winding road … [Read more...]
Simply Dim Sum @ Five Sen5es, The Westin Kuala Lumpur
As mentioned in my earlier post on Five Sen5es, that trendy Cantonese restaurant in The Westin Kuala Lumpur, I checked out their dim sum over a long leisurely lunch not too long ago. Five Sen5es looks quite different in the day time. While it looked classy and romantic due to the soft lightings at night, it looks bright, sleek and cheerful during the day, thanks to the bright sunshine streaming in through their vast glass panels on one side of the walls. You also get to watch KL goes by … [Read more...]
