Since it’s the Muslim fasting month – Ramadhan – many Buka Puasa bazaars have sprouted everywhere. We being a multiracial community – everybody seems to go to these bazaars (not only the Muslims!) to get a taste of what’s being sold there. The traders set up stalls as early as 3pm and the best time to get there is by about 5.30pm… if you go too late, all the good stuff will be sold out!
Last weekend I checked out the Ramadhan bazaar in Kota Kemuning. It’s really a very modest one compared to bigger & more established ones in Kelana, Bangsar and Kg Baru KL… the traders here lined up only one street!
Nevertheless, there were lots of yummy food on sale…
Several stalls were selling lauk – curries and malay dishes to go with rice…
This huge wok of Siput Masak Lemak caught my eye… must be quite popular… as you can see, almost sold-out already!
Roasted meats carved out to make kebabs…
Colourful kuehs… many stalls were selling all kinds of sweet stuff…
Curry puffs, fried popiahs… ondeh-ondeh… yummy!
This stall specialised in Tako only… coconut pudding with water chestnut fillings in “containers” made from pandan leaves…
Some noodles to fill the stomachs… huge woks of them!
Ahhh… Ikan Bakar is a must and very popular…
Such colourful drinks, too … I’m so intrigued by the purple juice … wonder what it is?
Hari Raya cookies … endless types, all packed neatly…
This is something special & innovative… Roti Jala Murtabak! First time I’m seeing this…
Ayam Percik is another very popular item in Buka Puasa bazzars – every bazaar is sure to have this… maybe a few stalls even, will be hawking the very fragrant grilled chicken …
You can buy the chicken pieces on their own… or served with nasi tomato like these…
Needless to say, we bought and bought and ended up with more food than we could finish!
