The JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur’s buffet at Shook in Feast Village has always been popular. Come Ramadhan, the buffet takes on a kampong festive atmosphere. The venue is transformed to give diners the feel of breaking fast in a traditional village, as the creative displays and stalls showcase Malay cuisine at its best.
Within such a charming traditional ambience, Chef Rafizan Abdul Rahim and his culinary team have come up with an amazing repertoire of dishes. Start with local ulam-ulaman served with Sambal Belacan, Sambal Tempoyak, Sambal Cincaluk and Budu and move on to other appetisers, pickles, salads and soups. From there, do proceed slowly to savour such classics like Rendang Tok, Ikan Patin Masak Tempoyak, Paru Goreng Berlada, Sambal Petai Ikan Bilis, Nasi Biryani, Sup Ekor and Bubur Lambok – these are surely must-have dishes during Ramadan!
In the village setting, mouth-watering aromas and irresistible displays beckon from the Gerai Satay, Gerai Ikan Bakar, Gerai Nasi Ayam, Gerai Roti Canai (my favourite), Gerai Mee and Gerai Rojak Buah.
I’m glad I saved stomach space for desserts because the sweet spread seems endless. The colourful local kuih, ice-cream, fresh fruits and western sweets were more than enough to satiate any sweet cravings!
The Festive Kampong Buffet is available from 15 May till 12 June 2018 from 6.30pm till 10.00pm.
