Generally, I am not a fan of buffets. I prefer sit-down meals where I can order quality portions of food which are served freshly-cooked and piping hot from the kitchen and not having to go choose my dishes from endless lines of food served on buffet tables. More often than not, those dishes have been cooked for some time already and usually kept warm with burners. Having said that, I do make exceptions for a few Japanese restaurants that offer buffets. These must be restaurants that offer … [Read more...]
Kampachi @ The Troika, Kuala Lumpur
The popular phrase “The Rise of the Phoenix“ refers to something which makes a spectacular or miraculous comeback. The mythological phoenix is an immortal bird that bursts into flames when it dies and is reborn from its ashes. Kampachi has recently reopened in The Troika, Kuala Lumpur. I’m not alluding that phrase to this reopening as Kampachi’s presence is still felt in the Equatorial Hotels in Malaysia as well as in Pavilion and JPO. It’s just that since The Equatorial Kuala Lumpur closed … [Read more...]
KyotoLab – Funky & Fun is the idea!
Almost everyone in town knows about The Pool. You know, that latest party place along Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur where every groovy party thrower wants to host the most happening party, be it a birthday, anniversary, launch, hen’s night etc etc. It’s called The Pool because well, the pool is the central attraction there and everything happens around it! Anyway, do you know that there is a cool, in an eclectic way, restaurant upstairs, just one floor above The Pool? Called KyotoLab, it … [Read more...]
Menya Musashi is open at 1-Utama!
I confess: I am not a great fan of ramen, generally. I find that eating ramen (in many Japanese restaurants here) is akin to eating instant noodles. That’s why on any other day you won’t ever catch me in a ramen shop. Not much anyway. Not until I heard that Menya Musashi is opening right here in Petaling Jaya, right next to where I work. Back in February this year, the good people from Menya Musashi Japan actually did a market test in Isetan KLCC by having a temporary kiosk in the food court. … [Read more...]
Watami @ Pavilion
The very first time I stepped into Watami was at their 1-Utama outlet and that was for a hurried lunch. I had a bowl of ramen and I was good to go. I believe I do have some photos of that meal somewhere but I haven't had a chance to blog about it. I told myself I'd blog about it when I have revisited the place to try out more of their dishes. That was like almost 4 months ago and this was during the time when the Old Wing of 1-Utama was undergoing some massive renovations which resulted in many … [Read more...]
PLOY – Work@Clearwater, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur
I like this line: Be dazzled by Ploy. No, I don't mean "ploy" as in "a calculated action to frustrate an opponent"... but rather "Ploy" as in "gems" in the Thai language. Yes, all that are glittery and dazzling are represented in Ploy... from the glitzy shimmering cushions to the gem-cut facet motif on its signage and wall covering. All these blend to give a cool modern almost-simplistic touch to the interior decor which on first impression, spells "hip" and even "chic". Take a seat in … [Read more...]
Set Buffet @ Kampachi, Equatorial Kuala Lumpur
I think if you mention "Kampachi", most people would know that it's one of the pioneer and premier Japanese restaurants in the city. The restaurant, located in the Equatorial Kuala Lumpur is a favourite with many and their Sunday Buffet Brunch is extremely popular - almost legendary, where advance bookings are a must. I like how they offer a "lesser salt" version of shoyu, but I can't remember whether it was the red or blue bottle! Besides the Sunday Buffet Brunch, Kampachi also serves … [Read more...]
Fukuharu
Like I said in one of my previous posts, 2011 started with a delicious bang, in the sense that I really had some good meals with some good friends. It's amazing how food brings like-minded people together... and I must say that I have been truly blessed with several great foodie friends in the latter part of last year and early this year. On this note, my dining experience at Fukuharu was truly memorable because this meal was shared with beloved family members and friends. Nestled in that … [Read more...]
pla dib @ The Heritage Village
pla dib. What do you make of that name? Can't fault you if something Thai popped into your mind. It is Thai for "raw fish" and the original restaurant was set up in Bangkok. However, pla dib doesn't exactly serve Thai cuisine - based on their philosophy of "freedom of food", its menu features a variety of Asian fusion items... namely marriages of Thai, Japanese and European cuisines. Besides KL, the other Asian city where you can find pla dib is Singapore.pla dib is located at The Heritage … [Read more...]
Pasta Zanmai @ 1Utama
Pasta ZanmaiG210B Ground Floor Promenade1 Utama Shopping MallBandar UtamaPetaling JayaMuch has been said about this sister outlet of Sushi Zanmai. While it serves Japanese-style pasta and pizza, it still retains some its other Japanese dishes on the menu, eg grilled seafood, tofu, edamame and some rice sets.We started off with some Miso Soup - some of us had the Miso Soup Yasai (RM6) - with mixed vegetables and mushrooms...... while I had the Miso Soup Asari (RM6) - with clams ...
