Chickpeas, for many, are an essential ingredient in hummus or a delectable addition in chilli. Besides these, chickpeas are actually very versatile - this vegan version of scrambled eggs is delicious and so easy to prepare using canned chickpeas. I love chickpeas for their creamy texture and delicious nutty flavour. I often just eat them on their own as a snack. High-quality canned beans, especially those sourced from the United States, are easily available in supermarkets … [Read more...]
Tuscan Chicken with Pinto Beans
Now that we are back to almost-normal working schedules, coming up with home-cooked meals for the family has become quite a challenge. When I get tired of making the usual Asian rice-based dishes, I often opt for easy-to-prepare Western-style one-dish meals. One of my favourite go-to recipes is aromatic Tuscan Chicken. In addition to being easy to prepare, it also keeps well. Prepare this dish ahead of time and store it in the fridge, and it’ll still taste amazing after a few days, … [Read more...]
HARI RAYA 2022
In 2020 and 2021, Hari Raya was miserable and not celebrated the way it should be – ie balik kampung and bonding with families and loved ones, no thanks to the various lockdowns during the pandemic. This year, finally – the situation has improved and there’s actually light at the end of this long dark tunnel! I’m so glad my Muslim friends could balik kampung (oh, the monstrous traffic jams exiting the city!) and for the rest of us, many took the opportunity to have a week-long break. I … [Read more...]
Vegetable Curry Dip with Refried U.S. Pinto Beans
The speckled pinto bean is not only nutritious but very versatile for cooking. Rich in protein, it also contains phosphorus and manganese and is very high in dietary fibre and folate. These mashed and refried pinto beans are a life-saver for busy people. Personally, my family love the dips I make with these refried beans, usually eaten with tortilla chips as a healthy snack. To give it more colours and flavours, I like to add in chunky bits of vegetables in my dips. Here, I’d like to share … [Read more...]
Flatbread & Chicken Pesto with U.S. Chickpeas
I have been staying and working at home ever since the pandemic hit early last year. Due to safety precautions against COVID-19, cooking meals at home has become a daily routine and easy-to-prepare healthy meals are always welcome. Instead of the usual rice meals which we Asians usually favour, I find that making your own flatbreads at home is a good option. Instead of the full-flour recipe, adding a portion of pulses flour, (e.g., U.S. Chickpea flour) gives it a healthier twist. Rich in … [Read more...]

CULFISHERY – order your seafood via WhatsApp!
Before the Covid-19 pandemic and MCO, when life was normal, I’ve always bought my seafood at the wet market and sometimes, at the supermarket. Now, since the MCO was enforced in March, most people, including me, have resorted to online purchases for groceries and fresh food. I’ve always been very particular about seafood - they must be absolutely fresh. Fisheries and seafood retailers have also learned a new business norm - sell or auction online! One of these enterprises is CHONG … [Read more...]
LUANG PRABANG, LAOS: What to do for 4D 3N stay?
Luang Prabang is located in the central north of Laos and the name means “Royal Buddha Image”. In 1995, it was listed as a World Heritage Site for the preservation of its unique architectural, religious and cultural heritage. The city maintains a balanced blend of urban and rural charm, retaining much of the French colonial influences in the 19th and 20th centuries. Since November 2016, Air Asia flies direct to Luang Prabang from KLIA2 and because of this convenience (otherwise it will be … [Read more...]
URBAN STOVE – empowering busy urbanites to cook at home
We all lead busy lives. We are constantly on the go, with our jobs, travels, deadlines and a hundred-and-one other things that demand our attention. So who has time to go marketing, buy fresh produce and then having to clean them and store them? I don’t know about you but I’m not exactly fond of cleaning fish and peeling prawns, to tell you the truth. We are so busy we constantly have to either eat out, buy takeaways or just contend ourselves with the regular instant noodles and fried egg. … [Read more...]
