Have you tried the new Mazesoba Ramen from Ippudo? It’s something very different from the regular ramen. For one, it’s a “dry” rendition, much like our local “kon loe” style where noodles are tossed with sauce and condiments. This Japanese-style “mixed ramen” is a serving of thick chewy noodles with 9 unique ingredients. The 9 ingredients are nori, cha shu, crunchy noodles, garlic, spring onion, minced pork, lime, leek and an onsen tamago (poached egg). The idea is to toss … [Read more...]

STEAMBOAT AT XIN, CONCORDE HOTEL KUALA LUMPUR
There was an evening when we were caught in a massive traffic jam right in the centre of the city. It was raining, chilly and traffic along Jalan Ampang had hardly moved in the last 30 minutes. Stuck in the car and with tummies growling louder every minute, we were craving for something hot and soupy. Steamboat! Yes, that would be perfect for a cold wet evening. As our car inched forward towards Jalan Sultan Ismail, we had a lightbulb moment - with the Concorde Hotel right by the corner, we … [Read more...]
HANA DINING & SAKE BAR: NEW GEMS ON THE MENU!
When Chef Thomas Lim and his team churn up their creativity, you can be sure wondrous things are going to happen. Read about my earlier write-up on the Sake Pairing in Hana Dining & Sake Bar - something which is held quite often there. Helming the kitchen of Hana since it opened a year ago, the good chef felt it’s about time to revamp the menu. The popular favourites are retained, naturally and the new creations hold pride of place in the brand new stylish menu. The hardcover-bound menu with … [Read more...]
CAMERON HIGHLANDS RESORT: PICNIC IN THE HILLS
Cameron Highlands is never boring. Not if you let the Cameron Highlands Resort take care of you. Read my review of this gorgeous place here. Besides going on the Jim Thompson Mystery Trail and if you get a bit tired of chilling out in the lovely resort (which is really not possible), the Cameron Highlands Resort has something else up its sleeve. It’s nothing too strenuous but you’ll be sure to get plenty of fresh air and sunshine. We started off from the resort at around 10am and headed up … [Read more...]
Lunching on Thai Favourites at the New NONG & JIMMY
Yes! They serve LUNCH now! I mean, Nong & Jimmy does. Nong & Jimmy at a new location, helmed by a new management crew too. You can't miss the bright yellow signboard! Mention “Nong & Jimmy” and odds are that many will know of this popular eatery in Ampang that has been drawing the crowds for many years. This eatery used to be housed in a rustic dwelling which was extended by putting up more zinc roofs and adding on tables and chairs. They used to open only in the evenings for … [Read more...]
THE ST REGIS MACAO – DINING IN STYLE
During our stay at The St Regis Macao, we had the opportunity to check out the two prestigious F&B outlets in the hotel. Yes, two may seem rather lacking as The St Regis Macao is a 400-room property but here it’s certainly the quality and not quantity that matters. THE ST REGIS BAR An iconic establishment in St Regis hotels all over the world, The St Regis Bar welcomes guests with its distinguished looks. The plush setup within spells elegant comfort - deep suede seats and sofas that … [Read more...]
PRESS BEYOND JUICE: cold-pressed juices to your doorstep!
Raw. Natural. Pure. Fresh. These are just some the descriptions for cold-pressed juices. So what’s the difference between cold-pressed juices and the normal blended fruit juices? Well, cold press juicers use just enough pressure to extract the juice while preserving its vitamins, enzymes, trace minerals and overall nutrients. What’s important is the juice doesn’t undergo any extreme conditions where it could be damaged. The juice doesn’t get heated up, it doesn’t get put through a … [Read more...]
Reviving the Traditions at FU-RIN, Holiday Inn Kuala Lumpur, Glenmarie
The Holiday Inn Glenmarie is located in a rather secluded location and getting there is almost like travelling to a secret hideaway. After passing through the main gate, Fu-Rin Restaurant on the right will be the first restaurant you see and right across it, there’s a huge carpark. Such convenience and this is one of the reasons I enjoy going to this hotel. It’s been almost two years since I last visited Fu-Rin so stepping into Fu-Rin, undoubtedly there’s an air of familiarity about it. … [Read more...]
