We didn’t have much time to explore Kota Kinabalu town when we were there recently. We were staying in the Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu and just had a few hours to spare. So we put those hours to good use – we went in search of food! Right behind the Le Meridien is Seng Hing, a kopitiam that sells decent noodles. It’s very popular as the place is busy all the time. We had the Prawns Laksa with extremely fresh prawns swimming in the rich spicy broth. Sweet and bouncy, those prawns were a … [Read more...]

THE ST REGIS MACAO
Every St Regis hotel in the world emanates a special signature scent which guests get to experience the moment they step into the main lobby. Known as “Caroline’s Four Hundred”, the scent was inspired by the 400 elite guests who attended one of Caroline Astor’s finest balls in New York way back in 1900. Caroline was the matriarch of the famous Astor family that owned and started The St Regis hotels, beginning with The St Regis New York which was opened in 1904 during the Gilded Age. The … [Read more...]
CRAB GENERATION @ Taman Len Sen, Cheras
I was told Crab Generation is a branch of the famous Fei Fei Crabs in Kepong. I haven’t been to Fei Fei myself but I was also told it’s one of the most popular Chinese tai-chow kind of restaurants in that area and has been delighting crab fans for a good number of years. So, anyway, when it comes to crabs, there is no destination too far and that was how we fought the famous Cheras traffic one Saturday evening to make our way to Crab Generation in Taman Len Sen. We were there early, … [Read more...]
Here comes THE GREENIES for healthier meal options!
Food-in-a-jar and healthy food, too - The Greenies were launched here recently. Founded by Kelvin Thong and Poh Kuang, the salads, presented in Mason jars, are the perfect solution to those who are constantly on the go and who prefer healthier meals. Made from produce sourced locally (most of them) from farms, the ingredients are chosen carefully for their nutritional value and of course the salads must be tasty and appealing as well. Mason jars are used, partly due to their aesthetics … [Read more...]
SHERATON GRAND MACAO – LIVING THE SUITE LIFE!
I still recall vividly the time when I attended the grand opening of the Sheraton Hotel, Cotai Central in Macao in 2012 as part of the Malaysian media team. Fast-forward 4 years and the hotel has now been designated “Sheraton Grand”, a truly deserving award. This new premier tier recognizes exceptional Sheraton hotels and resorts for their enticing destinations, distinguished designs and excellence in service and guest experiences. These qualities have to be constantly maintained, if not … [Read more...]
QURESHI RESTAURANT @ KLGCC – A TASTE OF AWADHI CUISINE
The Qureshi Restaurant oozes class and charm. Some may say it’s very “atas” and that’s also true. The decor spells stylish luxury and understated elegance in the crisp linen, beautifully upholstered chairs and of course one can’t help but gasp in admiration at the golden domed ceiling in the centre of the restaurant. And the chandeliers and beautiful traditional lamps and lightings are really lovely. The grand entrance Just look at these beautiful intricately-designed … [Read more...]
HOTEL JEN TANGLIN, SINGAPORE
It used to be the Traders Hotel but has recently been refurbished and rebranded. I’ve never stayed here when it was the Traders so I don’t really know how different it was then. But I can tell you what “Jen” is like now. Wait, just who is this “Jen”? Well, Jen is actually a virtual persona, a professional hotelier, a lover of life, fun, adventure and discovery. The decor of the hotel fits this description nicely after a cool SGD45million makeover. The main lobby and reception area is … [Read more...]
SAUNA STEAMBOAT @ YOUMIQI CUISINE
“Sauna steamboat” is the new buzz in steamboat dining these days. There are several restaurants which are doing a roaring business with this new trend. Basically, it’s steaming raw fresh food over boiling stock. Instead of the usual steamboat where raw food is dunked into boiling soup, food is placed on a steaming tray and slowly steamed over the soup. Juices from the steamed food drip into the soup below, thus intensifying the flavour over time. Trust me, by the time you have steamed the … [Read more...]
Celebrate Mother’s Day at ZUAN YUAN, One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya
I can’t believe that the first 4 months of the year have just zoomed past and May is just round the corner. And of course with May comes the Mother’s Day celebrations in the first week. Actually, if you ask me, every day should be a celebration with your folks if you are blessed with their presence. Nevertheless, if you need a reason to bring your mother out for a special meal, then OK, Mother’s Day it will be. Dining with moms is always a family affair (most times anyway) so why not round up … [Read more...]
