Located in the quieter part of Changkat Bukit Bintang, just behind the busy main thoroughfare, Fuzio’s facade commands more than a second glance. The slender vertical beams in its exterior design, coupled with a wooden panel with hanging potted plants, emblazoning its cuisine, lend a rustic charm to the whole setup. Upon stepping through its double glass doors, the interior exudes a cosy warmth. The raw-grained wooden tables, assorted eclectic paintings, mosaic walls, warm lightings all … [Read more...]

Smooth Silky Pan Mee @ Fa Kee, Taman Kinrara Kuala Lumpur
I’m picky about pan mee. I’m not particularly fond of those thin strands tossed with chilli flakes which is quite the craze with the crowds these days. Neither am I impressed by those green (with spinach added) or red hued (carrots influenced) noodles churned out from the machine. I like my pan mee done the good old fashioned way, which is hand-made and hand pulled. Those flat pieces of “chinese pasta” must then be cooked in a broth, simmered with anchovies and pork bones for hours to … [Read more...]
Tapas at Fiercer @ Publika
When Herukh Jethwani and his lovely wife Aahana were honeymooning in Spain, they were enthralled with the variety of delicious tapas served everywhere in that land. Thus the idea to formulate something similar back home in Fiercer was born and they experimented with the possibility upon their return. After numerous trials and testing in the kitchen, a series of avant-garde tapas done Indian-style have now been included in the menu at Fiercer. Slices of baguette are toasted … [Read more...]
Olive Garden @ Mid Valley MegaMall – hearty Italian fares
Malaysia has recently joined the list of locations of Olive Garden, a chain of Italian restaurants originating from the USA. Operated by the Secret Recipe Group here, Olive Garden is housed inside MidValley Mega Mall. The restaurant adopts a casual dining concept with its tiled floor, stone-clad pillars and wooden beams across the ceiling. The earth tones exude a sense of cosy warmth and somehow the booth seating on one side of the restaurant reminds me of an American diner. The menu shows … [Read more...]
What’s New and Nice in Tai Thong Restaurants?
Tai Thong is the largest chain of Chinese restaurants in Malaysia and it’s almost a household name when Chinese dining is mentioned. Whether it’s for dim sum or a wedding banquet, Tai Thong pops up as a popular venue. They’ve been around for ages – since 1971, to be exact (many of you were not even born then!) so yes, it’s an established brand alright. Their chefs have won many awards in local and international culinary competitions so credential-wise, they are pretty solid. Personally, I’ve … [Read more...]
Mid Autumn Treasures from Toh Yuen @ Hilton Petaling Jaya
Besides the Lunar New Year, another major festival when the Chinese celebrate a reunion of sorts is the Mid-Autumn Festival. Although very much now a commercial affair (which festival here is not?), the Mid-Autumn Festival remains a celebration steeped in tradition for many. As a kid growing up in Ipoh all those years ago, I remember I’ve always looked forward to the Mid-Autumn Festival, aka Mooncake Festival as that’s one occasion when we would have so much food placed on an outdoor table, as … [Read more...]
CEDAR on 15 @ Hotel Impiana KLCC
A view of the Kuala Lumpur skyline while dining is always a high selling point in any restaurant that’s able to accommodate that. Sometimes, that view sells more than the restaurant’s food. Typically, such dining places are bound to be very popular and may be very crowded. Cedar on 15 at the Hotel Impiana KLCC offers a great view of the Twin Towers and its surroundings and its spacious elegant setup is definitely a bonus. Matched against warm earthy tones in the walls and flooring, tables … [Read more...]
