BOSS CURRY HOUSE, Bkt Rimau, Shah Alam
Right here in my neighbourhood there’s this curry house that has been serving crowds in its modest premises. Serving Chettinad-style mixed with other Southern Indian dishes, food here is displayed in vegetarian and non-vegetarian shelves. Service is brisk and friendly and together with the very decent dishes, so it’s not hard to see why this place has been packing in the crowds. We have tried both their lunch and breakfast offerings and have been impressed with the quality. A standard … [Read more...]
LIM FRIED CHICKEN @ Hicom Glenmarie, Shah Alam
I first blogged about this well-known Fried Chicken way back in 2008 (read that here). Mr Lim started his business as a stall in Wong Soon Kee Kopitiam in SS14 Subang Jaya and the queues for his fried chicken snaked all the way along the five-foot-way outside. I have been a fan all these years, taking my place in the queue, either to eat in the kopitiam or to “tapau” as takeaway. The delicious aroma of the fried chicken coming from the huge wok where Mr Lim stood tirelessly tending to, … [Read more...]
Lam’s Kitchen – a gem in Bukit Jelutong
The folks in Bukit Jelutong are a lucky lot. With Lam’s Kitchen housed in the neighbourhood mall dishing out delectable food, they certainly have it good, as far as family and casual dining is concerned. Located just next to Jaya Grocer’s, the simple set-up does not undermine the delicious food coming out from the kitchen. Lam's Kitchen is a simple, no-frills outfit Their Wantan Noodles blew me away. I’m always on the lookout for good wantan noodles and coming from Ipoh, I’m very particular … [Read more...]
Affordable Steaks and Lamb Chops at Foodilicious Kitchen, Shah Alam
It’s 2015 and let the feasting continue! Let’s start the year by looking for some affordable eats. Shah Alam may be the most unlikely place to look for some decent steaks and other western-style dishes. However, it was in a rather obscure spot that we found some really nice lamb chops and steaks. Tucked away in a food court in Section 7, Shah Alam is Foodilicious Kitchen. Opened since last June, Foodilicious Kitchen is run by Lyssa Hamzah and her siblings. The menu is just a 2-paged laminated … [Read more...]
Auntie Chan’s Noodles House, Kota Kemuning – fab home-made fishballs & more!
Despite the name, you won’t find Auntie Chan in this restaurant. Instead, you will find Auntie Chan’s daughter, Shirley, who’s the one running the show here. An avid and passionate cook, Shirley explains that her mother used to operate a stall in Penang selling her famous duck meat koay teow th’ng. She recalls how her mother used to patiently fan the charcoal stove to boil the stock used for the noodles. It took hours and hours of boiling to achieve the right depth of flavours in the soup. … [Read more...]
Haechi Korean Restaurant, Kota Kemuning – BBQ and More!
There are several Korean restaurants in Kota Kemuning but so far, our favourite is Haechi. As the name suggests, this Korean restaurant serves BBQ and we have been going there many times for our favourite BBQs. Haechi may not be very visible from the road as it is tucked away on the 1st floor of the shoplot they occupy. It is owned by a very pleasant and friendly Korean couple, known simply as Mr & Mrs Lee who have made Malaysia their home some years ago. The restaurant is bright … [Read more...]
Good old favourites at Kampar Old Town Kopitiam, Kota Kemuning
Food outlets open and close so often nowadays in Kota Kemuning that it’s not surprising the residents can’t really keep up with the dynamics. In the town center, what used to house a Pan Mee restaurant has now given way to Kampar Old Town Kopitiam. This kopitiam is run by the family of Leong Kok Ying who is the founder of the famous Restaurant Wing Lok Yuen in Kampar. Located along Kampar town’s main street – Jalan Idris, that restaurant was founded in 1947. Wing Lok Yuen is the original … [Read more...]

From its humble beginnings in Rawang, Restaurant Lan Je which is famous for its delicious steamed tilapia, has now expanded to many parts of the Klang Valley (Balakong, Kota Damansara, Puchong, USJ Subang, to name a few), and its most recent one is in Kota Kemuning which opened for business in mid July 2013. Restaurant Lan Je’s menu is simple and limited to several house favourites. The restaurant in Kota Kemuning has its menu posted on the wall with full colour posters. Their steamed … [Read more...]
The Best Prawn Mee in Kota Kemuning at Uncle Vincent’s!
The first thing I did was to taste the sambal that came with the bowl of Prawn Mee. I could discern freshly-ground dried chillies (not the preservative-laden commercially produced type!), belacan and dried shrimps and laced with sweet fragrant pounded shallots. Yes, that definitely passed my acid test. Next… the broth. I scooped a whole spoonful and could see that it was thick and cloudy – that’s a good sign. It tasted as it should be: brimming over with porky and prawny goodness, … [Read more...]
