A visit to The Mornington Peninsula won’t be complete if you don’t visit the famous Cape Schanck Lighthouse. Located at the tip of the peninsula fronting the Bass Strait, the lighthouse still stands tall and proud since its construction way back in 1859. The Cape Schanck Lightstation has a fully functional beacon and it offers visitors a unique glimpse of the past as the historic buildings around it are still kept true to their original condition. On the Lightstation grounds are 3 … [Read more...]
The Majestic Malacca
I cannot help but be awed by The Majestic Malacca the very first time I set eyes on it. Located at the banks of the Malacca River, the grand white building with green windows is a sight to behold. I felt as if I’ve been transported back in time. As a kid, I used to live in a wooden house with similar windows which creaked every time we pushed them - funny how such bits of memories hit you when triggered by something trivial like wooden windows. But of course the windows here at The Majestic … [Read more...]
The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa – a revisit
It’s been about 8 months since we were last at The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa. When we were there in August last year, the resort was about to embark on its refurbishment program. Please read my earlier post on this beautiful resort here. Set in an idyllic natural retreat of the island, adorned with an exclusive beach front location up to 500 metres, The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa is strategically located just 20 minutes from the Langkawi International Airport by car and within 1 … [Read more...]
Orchard Heights – Homestay amidst fruit orchards
Recently, we went on a mini road-trip with some fellow foodie friends to check out a beautiful kampung-style homestead just beyond the city boundaries, set against a gorgeous backdrop of rolling misty hills and greenery as far as the eye can see. Just off the Karak Highway and not too far away from the madness of the city, lies Orchard Heights – an abundantly green property with extensive fruit orchards nestling in the hills. Spanning 187 acres, it’s a collective sprawling homestead, started … [Read more...]
The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa – Breeze
We shall always remember the Breeze Lounge for 2 things: the stunning view from its al fresco terrace and the awesome steaks! Aptly named… indeed you will feel the gentle sea breeze caressing your skin when you seat yourself in the bright airy lounge and dining area beyond. It spots a modern contemporary casual atmosphere with plush comfy fabric couches where you can just sink in and chill-out with a glass of their signature martinis or just that wonderfully refreshing Apple Cinnamon … [Read more...]
The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa
Did you know that the Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa is the first hotel establishment in the legendary island of Langkawi? Well, back then in 1973 it was first known as the Langkawi Country Club. It was later converted to the Langkawi Island Resort and then to the Sheraton Perdana Resort in 1995. After a major renovation and rebranding exercise, the Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa officially opened on 19 December 2006. It is also the first Westin resort in Malaysia. The moment … [Read more...]
Aman Rimba – a secret haven in Janda Baik
If a picture can paint a thousand words, there will not be enough to describe the serene beauty that encompasses Aman Rimba. So, I won't try too hard to do that. This will, essentially be a photo-heavy post, while I try to do justice to the place with my limited vocabulary in describing this lush and lovely haven, tucked away in a rustic kampung, accessed by a long, narrow and winding road. It is a bit hard to believe that this piece of paradise lies just barely an hour away from the … [Read more...]
