When we were at The Majestic Malacca, we loved climbing up the wooden staircase to The Mansion – the semi-formal dining room just a floor above the lobby. The polished wooden balustrade reminded me of the grand old houses back in Ipoh, especially the “big knobs” design on the vertical pillars. The Mansion has a capacity for 106 guests and 2 private dining rooms seating 10 and 16 guests respectively. The tables are covered with crisp white linen cloths and table napkins are … [Read more...]
Melur & Thyme, Suria KLCC
“A memorable mix of East and West, in an arty sidewalk café space”. That, in a nutshell, describes Melur & Thyme perfectly. Oh, may I also add that this arty sidewalk café is also very stylish and chic looking, which of course, is requisite in an upmarket mall like Suria KLCC. Its dark wooden panelled entrance with intricate floral-like lattice work flanks its logo: a bunch of herbal leaves, from what I gather. Stepping inside, one wall showcases a reflection of the restaurant’s … [Read more...]
Mum’s Kitchen Restaurant
The lunch we had at Mum's Kitchen Restaurant was most memorable because it was the meal with the most no. of claypot dishes we've ever had! Pot after pot, they came... smouldering and bubbling, giving out the most heavenly aromas even before the pots touched our table. Recently relocated to Subang, Mum's Kitchen Restaurant, which used to be in Kota Damansara as "Mum's Seafood Noodles House", serves hearty dishes - well-loved dishes that many Chinese mothers would cook at home. Most of … [Read more...]
A Touch of Nyonya Influence by Chef Debbie Teoh @ Chatz Brasserie
It's exactly a year ago that I wrote about Chef Debbie Teoh and her delightful Nyonya specialities. It was also at the same venue - Chatz Brasserie at Parkroyal Kuala Lumpur. Read about my post one year ago here. The authentic Nyonya fare served up by Chef Debbie must have been such a hit that Parkroyal Kuala Lumpur has decided to bring her back again this year and timely too - for the upcoming Mother's Day celebrations! Nasi Ulam I had a sense of deja vu as I walked into Chatz … [Read more...]
Currying Flavours @ Bayan Indah
Recently, I was at Bayan Indah - again - for another delightful culinary session. Read about my earlier escapades in Bayan Indah here, here and here! Truth be told, I have been to Bayan Indah more than those 3 blogged sessions - there were several that I did not blog about ... so you can call me an almost-veteran as far as Bayan Indah is concerned. Anyway, after a lapse of almost a year, I found myself at Bayan Indah a few weeks ago. This time, I had in tow a good friend - someone whom I've … [Read more...]
Kelantan Delights @ Subang Jaya – the best Buka Puasa Buffet I’ve had!
Let's get straight to the point. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is less than a week away, I know... and if you have not been to any Buka Puasa yet or if there is ONE Buka Puasa that you must go to, then it's at Kelantan Delights in Subang Jaya! Kelantan Delights started off in the food court of KLCC some 14 years ago and I remember they're really popular - there's always a long queue of people. Business was very brisk and this led them to their first full-fledged restaurant in Suria KLCC and later … [Read more...]

There are 2 special menus that sample Malay traditional flavours and these are available in all Delicious cafes across Malaysia … [Read more...]
328 Katong Laksa
We made a short trip down south to Singapore a couple of weekends ago. It was almost a "Touch & Go" trip... we were there to watch the Lion King musical (which was totally so enjoyable!) and the rest of the time was just to eat and shop. As we were staying with my good friend CH who graciously hosted us at her lovely condo in Amber Gardens, we just had to walk over to East Coast Road where a few of Singapore's famous Katong Laksa outlets were located. It was a 12-minute walk from the … [Read more...]
My home-made Nyonya Chung
This year the Bakchang Festival falls on 6 June. Usually a few weeks before the festival, the Chinese will be making and enjoying the bamboo leaves-wrapped dumplings. My favourite has always been the Cantonese-style "ham yook chung" which I make almost every year (see my post on that here). A couple of weeks back I had the chance of trying Debbie Teoh's Nyonya Chung and after that, I was so inspired to give this a try. So, I sent out an SOS for some "bunga telang" and my kind kahcheh went and … [Read more...]
