I think if you mention “Kampachi”, most people would know that it’s one of the pioneer and premier Japanese restaurants in the city. The restaurant, located in the Equatorial Kuala Lumpur is a favourite with many and their Sunday Buffet Brunch is extremely popular – almost legendary, where advance bookings are a must.
I like how they offer a “lesser salt” version of shoyu, but I can’t remember whether it was the red or blue bottle!
Besides the Sunday Buffet Brunch, Kampachi also serves a Set Buffet Lunch on Public Holidays and Saturdays. It’s a smaller version of their Sunday Brunch and you order the dishes (unlimited servings) from a set menu. It’s like a “Eat As Much As You Can” kinda set offer. Having said that, there’s also a small buffet spread of appetizers for you to choose from…
Grilled Shishamo – I think I had about 8 of these – they were divine, hot off the grill!
This set buffet works great if you are unable to tackle a full buffet spread. You order your favourite items from the set menu and food is prepared and served fresh. The choices may not be as wide as the regular buffet, but you get to eat food that’s cooked individually and served immediately to you. This way, you can be assured that there’ll be no soggy sushis or cold tempuras.
We had plate after plate of this freshly-fried piping-hot Prawn Tempura – they were so good!
Order your sashimis by the piece… I can’t remember how many pieces of the salmon, tuna and butterfish we had…
Too bad they ran out of octopus that day… but the butterfish were a firm favourite too!
Have your proteins, people!
How about some carbs?
I love the Garlic Fried Rice – very fragrant, full of “wok-hei”!
Desserts were a bit limited and not so impressive. But even so, we ordered all 4 items on the menu…
At RM85++ per pax, I would say this is pretty good value for money, as you can order as many servings as you like from the set menu. The variety may not be very extensive, but hey, sometimes it’s good to go for quality rather than quantity. Service is excellent… attentive and ever-smiling service crew bringing us the 5th plate of sashimi and 6th plate of prawn tempura! So, for the next public holiday, why not go and have a long lazy lunch there?

Kampachi is practically an institution!! Their buffets have been famous for more than 10 years, I believe! Everything looks great!!
How much is the Sunday Brunch? When I think of all the value-for-money buffet spreads in KL and look at the 60dhs per plate of sushi (6pcs mind you) here, I want to fly home immediately!!
Pureglutton says
Their Sunday Brunch is RM92++ … so darn cheap compared with AD! Come, let’s go for this when you are back?
gfad says

Pureglutton says
Yep, their Buffet on Sunday is still a big hit!
J2Kfm says
Good value IMO. RM85 can’t net you even a good portion of sashimi in premium Japanese restaurants nowadays.
Pureglutton says
I totally agree with you!
