Ever since it opened in mid 2015, Ruyi & Lyn has remained immensely popular and has steadfastly garnered a huge fan base. Its vast elegant space has graced many glamorous events and often showcased in social media. Food-wise, their nasi lemak and Hainanese chicken rice sushis have remained some of the most-searched items on Google images! Check out my earlier post on Ruyi & Lyn here.
So yes, to say that Ruyi & Lyn has made its mark is an understatement.
Besides its standard menu (which lists a decent selection of eye-catching dishes), Ruyi & Lyn has recently introduced their range of exclusive Dim Sum. True to its trend-setting philosophy, their dim sum concept offers a unique slant: they are pretty, eye-pleasing and some have Thai taste influences. I would say most of them have very pronounced and definitive flavours, thanks to aromatic ingredients like lemongrass, kaffir lime and galangal. Of course, tanginess and spiciness also play a good role in the taste spectrum of these delectable bites. Chef Boonsri Charoensuk and his team have certainly done a commendable job with this repertoire.
Top on the list – the dim sum items that showcase robust Thai flavours are their
Prawn Paste Balls in tomyum sauce (RM15)
Crispy Lobster in Lemongrass Skewers (RM18)
Fragrant Garlic Prawns Puffs with tomyum sauce (RM12)
Ruyi & Lyn must be the only place in Klang Valley which has come up with some innovative boozy fillings for the popular xiao loong bao. How about some Carlsberg Beer and Connors Stout squirting out of hot steamy dumplings? The unmistakable flavours of beer and stout remain true-to-form and can be quite addictive, I tell you. A bamboo tray serving consists of 8 plump xiao loong bao filled with beer, stout and tomyum broth – it’s definitely a must-try here!
Ruyi Xiao Loong Baos (RM25)
The most visually arresting dim sum on the list is surely the Deep-fried Venison Puffs (RM12). The deep blue colour and its pretty flower shape would produce a few “wows” for sure. Taste-wise, the slightly spicy venison was very palatable too.
Ruyi & Lyn’s current dim sum menu showcases quite a variety of dumplings and many of them are appealing, both visually and gastronomically. Steamed, pan-fried or deep-fried, the selection would please many. The chefs really put their skills to the test by creating these delightful dumplings which are unique in tastes and shapes. I was told their creations went through rigorous endless tastings before they made it to the list.
So, take your pick from these selections…
Capsicum & Nuts Dumplings (RM12)
Vegetarian Abalone & Mushrooms Dumplings (RM12)
Smoked Duck Dumplings in Spinach Crystal Skin (RM12)
Chicken & Chives Dumplings (RM12)
Prawns & Shredded Eggs Dumplings (RM12)
Prawns & Snow Fungus Dumplings (RM15)
Spicy Prawns & Celery Dumplings (RM15)
My personal favourite, apart from the blue Venison Puffs are the delicious Pan-fried Stuffed Brinjals & Radish Cake. Brinjals and radish are some of my favourite vegetables so this creation really got me at the right spot. You can’t beat deep-fried brinjals stuffed with fish paste balanced atop crispy squares of radish cake and drizzled with a lip-smacking beanpaste sauce!
Steamed buns shaped as mushrooms are all the rage these days and Ruyi & Lyn’s version has a flavoursome minced chicken filling.
Fragrant Chicken Mushroom Buns (RM12)
Two more savoury dim sum on the menu are the Crispy Prawn Rolls with Mango Cream (RM12) and Chicken Gyoza (RM18).
The only sweet dim sum item on the list is the Aloe Vera Egg Tarts (RM10). Encased within crumbly buttery pastry, the wobbly eggy filling with refreshing aloe vera should not be missed, for that sweet ending to a rousing dim sum meal.
If the selections may seem a bit mind-boggling, there is a Lunch Set that’s available which has put together some of their signature items. At RM43 per person (minimum 2 persons), you get an assortment of sharksfin dumpling soup (ask for a replacement if this is not preferred) 3 dim sum (steamed, pan-fried & deep-fried), crispy chicken & vegetable roll with garden greens, my favourite stuffed brinjal & radish cake and aloe vera egg tart.
