The Red Monkey is on its way and to pave the dawning of the Lunar New Year, the award-winning restaurant China Treasures in Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) is all set with prosperous feasts to welcome it. China Treasures is a lovely restaurant with a classy plum and rosy hued table linen offset against elegant oriental arches and latticed wall panels. On one side diners can even enjoy the lush greenery of the golf course outside as the windows open out onto this relaxing view.
Executive Chinese Chef Eddie Chua and his culinary team have specially designed set menus starting from RM922.88 nett (for 6 pax)/RM1,288.88 nett (for 10 pax).
Executive Chef Eddie specialises in Cantonese cuisine so you can expect some exquisite dishes in the 5 special set menus (Wealth, Prosperity, Fortune, Abundance and Happiness) which are available until 22 February 2016. Be prepared for a good variety though as each of the set menu features 8-9 dishes!
Besides salmon, there are also yee sang featuring abalones, fresh haruan fish and jelly fish. A la carte orders of these are available, at prices ranging from RM91 to RM268. Take-away yee sang is charged an additional RM21 nett per order and take-away is also available for lunch and dinner at the Golfer’s Terrace.
From the Happiness menu, we had the Crispy Roasted Chicken with Szechuan Pepper Hot Sauce. At first glance, the golden-skinned roasted chicken looked like the regular version served in common menus in Chinese restaurants. What set this apart was Chef Eddie’s use of spicy Szechuan peppercorns which left a light zing in the mouth and would make you reach for a second helping.
We checked out some dishes from the Abundance set (RM1,162.88 nett for 6 pax; RM1,688.88 nett for 10 pax). Most of the dishes were regular Cantonese fares enhanced with certain premium ingredients which would fare well during the festive season. Traditional must-have ingredients like oysters, sea moss (“fatt choy), prawns and live fish are all featured in the dishes.
Braised Sea Moss Oyster Rolls with White Jade Shell and Garden Greens
Steamed Live Australian Jade Perch
Stir-fried Crystal Prawns with Honey Pepper Sauce
X.O. Fried Rice with Seafood
Chilled Lo Han Guo Jelly with Aloe Vera
Chinese New Year Special Dessert of deep-fried glutinous sesame balls and sweet pink mochis
