In an area where Korean eateries and coffee cafes rule, Soi 55 stands out very visibly, especially with its promotional banners strung out across the facade. As the name suggests, Soi 55 serves Thai food and its affordable meal sets are popular with the crowd. We were there for an early lunch on a Saturday and were among the first few diners there. The menu was comprehensive, listing down the usual Thai favourites. We started off with some Thai Milk Tea and Lemongrass Tea while perusing … [Read more...]

Puttin’ on a FESTIVE FEAST at THE RITZ-CARLTON Kuala Lumpur
This year, The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur is putting up their Festive Feast in conjunction with the fasting month. You can call this their inaugural event as they have not done this for many years, probably since almost 30 years ago, I was told. So after such a long lapse, the chefs at The Cobalt Room are now cooking up a stellar showcase of signature dishes representing the 13 states in Malaysia and in addition to that, expect to savour some Middle Eastern specialities, too. Golden … [Read more...]

Dining at The Royal Selangor Yacht Club (RSYC) – it’s OPEN to the PUBLIC!
The Royal Selangor Yacht Club (RSYC) is no stranger to me. My in-laws were the first food operator of this grand dame, way back many years ago. At that time and until a few years ago, the RSYC was strictly for members only. It’s the oldest and largest yacht club in Malaysia, having been established in 1963. The club is graced by the royal patronage of HRH Sultan of Selangor. Some of you may be familiar with the prestigious Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta, which is organised by … [Read more...]
Start your SEGAMAT FOOD TRAIL at VIP HOTEL!
Ipoh, Penang and Melaka are popular destinations for short breaks away from the city. The problem is these cities are so popular that on most weekends and public holidays, they will be crowded with holiday-makers thronging the well-known spots. If you are tired of the above scenario, why not head down south to Segamat for that little break? Located just over 200km from Kuala Lumpur, a leisurely drive of about 3 hours would bring you to this little town. We used to have a neighbour who was … [Read more...]

It has been quite some time since I last set foot in Lai Ching Yuen, the elegant Chinese restaurant in Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur. In a recent visit, I was again struck by its stunning red and black decor with touches of gold elements enhancing the grand oriental theme of the restaurant. I like the thoughtful layout of tables took into consideration group dining with the typical big round tables as well as smaller tables set for an intimate meal for couples. Best … [Read more...]
Grab a table at TABLE 23, Jalan Mesui, Kuala Lumpur
Table 23 is located in the middle of a quieter road away from the mad chaos of Changkat Bukit Bintang. The eateries along this road, Jalan Mesui, seem more comfortable and definitely more inviting than those on the main touristy belt. We were at Table 23 for dinner and while waiting for our food, we took time to take in the cosy charm of the place. Personal gifts and deco items of the owner are displayed in a cabinet, some of which are conversational pieces. got the feeling … [Read more...]
