There aren’t that many eateries that serve porky pizzas and pastas and Skippys is one of those in this arena. They first started in Phileo Damansara and have recently opened another outlet in Damansara Uptown which is good news for pork lovers around there. Located in the same row as The Ship, Skippys is a casual restaurant with simple furnishings - a place where you can just chill out with some cold beer and your favourite porky dishes. Simple set-up... let's just get on with the … [Read more...]

TOP 10 PICKS IN GENJI @ Hilton Petaling Jaya
Genji Japanese Restaurant at the Hilton Petaling Jaya has been around for a long time and is a firm favourite with many PJ residents. Over the years, it has gone through several changes or facelifts, to move with the times. Its latest makeover has resulted in a deco theme that's classically contemporary with extra privacy for diners by creating separate sections in the restaurant. The sections include the sushi bar, main restaurant, two spacious teppanyaki counters and five private dining … [Read more...]
BRAZZO CASCADES: Gastropub, Steakhouse, Wine Bar
Dataran Cascades is pretty new, in fact, it’s so new that we almost missed it. It’s not fully tenanted yet and there are just a few eateries within the vast building. One of them is of course Brazzo, located on Level LG, fronting the colourful water fountain. Guests in Brazzo get a visual feast every night when the lights and water come alive at the fountain. The al fresco dining space between the two air-conditioned segments of Brazzo Brazzo is not just an eatery - it's a … [Read more...]
THE HAVEN IPOH
As someone who was born and bred in Ipoh and with family still there, naturally I don’t have to stay in hotels whenever I “balik kampong”. So when an invitation was extended to me to check out The Haven, a luxurious condotel resort on the outskirts of the city, I was curious and did not hesitate to accept it. If you are entering Ipoh from the North-South Highway, The Haven is just about 5 minutes away after exiting the Ipoh toll booth. Just make your way to Jalan Tambun, drive on straight … [Read more...]
BAAN KUN YA @ Centrepoint, Bandar Utama – it’s Thai dining from the heart!
Baan Kun Ya means “Grandma’s House” in Thai and it was this desire to preserve age-old recipes of traditional Thai dishes that inspired the opening of this restaurant. It’s by the same people behind Thai Odyssey - yes, those well-known massage therapy outlets. Love the rustic charm of the restaurant! Having made a strong presence in Malaysia all these years with their local massage/spa expertise, it makes sense to now expand into the F&B industry with their particular offering of “old … [Read more...]
TBF SIGNATURE KITCHEN GASTROBAR, OASIS SQUARE, ARA DAMANSARA
From the same stable of The Burger Factory, TBF Signature Kitchen Gastrobar is a fairly new watering hole occupying a prime location in Oasis Square, Ara Damansara. Directly facing the fountain and water feature, it’s not surprising to see that many of their customers prefer to chill-out at the al fresco part of the gastrobar. On a warm sultry evening, nothing is more relaxing than to have some cold beers and munch on some of their tasty snacks and tapas. For light bites, we enjoyed their … [Read more...]

NASI LEMAK SERAI WANGI at SS2 Petaling Jaya
I chanced upon this stall in a kopitiam in SS2 recently. What caught my attention was the delicious aroma of the lemongrass-scented rice when I passed by the stall. At that point, one of the guys was scooping up the rice for an order. I stopped and checked out the stall and was delighted to see they had sambal kerang (cockles sambal) and I wasted no time in ordering a plate of their nasi lemak with that and beef rendang as well. Service was pretty fast and before long, a plate … [Read more...]
KIRAKU JAPANESE RESTAURANT, CYBERJAYA
Some may think that Cyberjaya is pretty far to get to for a Japanese meal. Well, actually it’s a very pleasant drive along the highway and I love the big spaces and wide roads of Cyberjaya. Parking is also pretty easy. But of course I’m talking about weekends and weekends are just perfect to chill and take that easy drive somewhere for some food-hunting. And that’s how we came to Kiraku Japanese Restaurant. Housed on level 3 of the commercial Shaftsbury Square, you can easily spot the … [Read more...]
