August is usually an exciting month for lovers of Japanese cuisine as that’s when some special seasonal goodies will make their way to our shores. Okayama is known as the “Sunny Land” due to its many sunny days in a year and its mild climate and fertile lands have made it a great producer of agricultural goods. The Kampachi Restaurants will be holding its Okayama Fair again this year with the bountiful offerings from the Okayama Prefecture. The fair will be held from 22 August till 5 … [Read more...]

The mooncakes offered this year comprise traditional favourites and a … [Read more...]

What are your favourite Chinese dishes? I know that’s such a difficult question to answer, right? I mean, how do you even define “Chinese dishes”? That description is so infinite as Chinese cuisine is utterly complex. And Chinese cuisine in the Malaysian context takes on a whole different slant… I don’t even know where to start! OK… now, if your favourite Chinese dishes have anything to do with roast/BBQ meats (Chinese style, of course), then read on. Because this is what this post is mainly … [Read more...]
Best Durian Desserts in KL & PJ
How do you like your durians? Fresh? Or cooked and made into desserts? Some people are averse to eating cooked durians but the King of Fruits can be made into so many different types of sweets and injecting them with its unique flavor. CAKES Durians are widely added to cakes as these are extremely popular. Due to the mushy texture of mashed durians, it’s rather tricky to balance it in the cake recipe. Two of the most outstanding cakes featuring durians that are my favourite … [Read more...]

Melissa and Michelle Pong are like two bubbly peas in a pod. The 2 sisters are the cool owners of the Fat Spoon Cafe in Damansara Uptown, a quaint little cafe known for its quirky local favourites served with a twist. It’s a cafe that’s only about 3 years old but the sisters’ creations, mostly inspired by family favourites, have created a good following. Taking a step further, Melissa and Michelle have recently shared some of their favourite recipes in a cookbook, published by MPH. It … [Read more...]
Mandara Spa at Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort
To me, no holiday is complete without some body pampering. A spa session, a body massage or even just some basic foot reflexology makes a whole lot of difference and these are things I try to include in my travel itinerary. When we were at the Sheraton Krabi Beach Resort recently, I managed to catch a massage session at the renowned Mandara Spa. Spa enthusiasts will recognise the prestige and quality that are synonymous with the name “Mandara Spa”. Traditional holistic spa treatments … [Read more...]
Symphony of flavors in T.G.I. Friday’s New Menu
T.G.I Friday’s has been around for a long time and needs no introduction. It’s one of the most recognisable restaurants here in the Klang Valley, especially in the malls. It’s also a popular venue for birthday celebrations as I have witnessed many boisterous birthday parties being held in the premises. Of course, the restaurant staff’s loud and enthusiastic greetings and singing play a nice part in the popularity too. Fashioned as a casual American diner, T.G.I Friday’s is a favourite with … [Read more...]
Fiercer at Publika
It’s fun talking to Herukh Jethwani, the jovial guy behind Fierce Curry House in Bangsar Utama and its sister outlet, Fiercer in Publika. We were at Fiercer checking out their famed Hyderabadi dhum biryani rice not too long ago. As we took in the casual modernity of Fiercer and remarked on the clever use of hanging stainless steel curry containers upside-down as lamps from the ceiling, Herukh continued with the historical journey of his fierce outlets. He told us how his father's law … [Read more...]
